Donna (Baker) Yarrow, Emily and Ryan, of Guelph. were Satur- day visitorst with Kcn and Marg Baker and other relatives in the vil- lage. Harold and Lucille Vincent ar- rived home last week after a two- month holiday in Florida. They vis- ited daughter Lori and her husband Kevin Brown. Their son Mike looked after business while Harold was gone. Hugh and I recently attended a birthday dinner for his sister Hazel Corbett, held at the home of Donna Corbett in Exeter. Others attending were Hazel's daughter. Connic Chaffc and husband Bob, of Mitch- ell. her sisters. Blanche Chapman, London and Marjorie Adams, Exet- er. First place Tulle Hearn, of Dashwood, is first place winner in the Grade 9, 10 category of a re- cent Legion Zone Public Speaking Contest held in Clin- ton. By Muriel Lewis Granton correspondent GRANTQN- Emerson and Mary Wallis returned home recently having spent two months at Margate, Florida. A former Granton resident Harold Talbot, age 90, died at Ailsa Craig on Wednesday. March 19th. The funeral was held at the Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan on Friday., Muriel Lewis accompanied Clandeboye Women's -Institute for a pancake brunch and meeting at the Fort Rose Maple Company. west of Nairn on Wednesday, March 19th. _ Becky Kindree and Cathie Westman hosted the Luncheon and Euchre at the Lion's Hall on Friday, March 21st. Prizes for euchre high score went to to Helen Toonders, lone hands to Muriel Lewis and low score Max Bilyea, and everybody received consolation prizes plus Easter eggs and bunnies. Becky Bryan was honored with a miscellaneous shower at the Granton United Church on Thursday evening, March. 20th. Nancy Mills. welcomed everyone and introduced the program when Amelia Jameson read some humorous bits of- wisdom and Veronica Blom gave a piano instrumental: Assisting Becky with her gifts were her sisters Carolyn Bryan, Kelly O'Hagan and Pam Young. April Bryan and Mary O'Hagan. mother of the groom, poured tea. Everyone enjoyed the dainty refreshments arranged by Unit Two. At the Granton United Church on Sunday, March 23rd, Pastor Normalie Voakes. entitled her sermon "the Palm Wavers" based on the lessons from Isaiah 50 and Mark I I. The Good Friday service will be held at 7 o'clock 'at the Granton United Church. The United Church Women are collecting warm clothing for children in the Northern Arca to be sent the first week of 'April. Anything to be sent should be left -at the Church next Sunday. At St.Paul's Anglican Church, Kirkton on Sunday, March 23rd the Rev. Glenda Meakin led the Liturgy of the Palms and. celebrated the Holy Eucharist. Her message was about Holy Week, as one.follows Christ from the glory of. the palms to the glory of the Resurrection. The lessons were read by Brent and Kathy Blackler and the minster. The Good Friday service at St.Paul's is at 9:15 a.m. . The•Granton Women's institute met at the home of Florence Bryan on Wednesday afternoon, March 18th. The topic was Agriculture and the motto was "Be yourself and' remember laughter is . the besti" medicine" illustrated by Florence McRobert in a reading "the value of a smile". She also read a story. "Three Ducks; Birds of a Feather expire together; Patchwork Pieces; Workshy Old John; and Why Worry". The roll call was answered with a casserole recipe or a favorite spring bird. Muriel Lewis chaired the meeting and read "The Best and Sweetest Things in Life".
