Lioness donation
Exeter Lioness Club member Cathy Cade from Dashwood presents a cheque for $500 to
the -Dashwood. Fireman's Association. The money will go towards purchasing "down
alarms" a device thatemits an alarm when the firefighter wearing it is motionless for 30
seconds. The now mandatory device is designed to protect firefighters entering a

Hazlitt seeks
nomination
BENMILLER - Shirley Hazlitt of
Benmiller has decided to seek the
nomination to be candidate for the
Federal Progressive Conservative
Party in Huron Bruce.
"The Progressive Conservative
Party is the only viable alternative
to the Liberals," says Ms: Hazlitt.
"I feel the Progressive Conserva-
tives can empower the people to de-
velop an economic environment -
that gives Canadians hope for the
future."
-f\ graduate of Stratford Teacher's
College,,Hazlitt has taught children
and adults. She is also a former Hu-
ron County Board of Education
trustee.
She has farmed in Colborne
Township for 30 years and is a
graduate of the Advanced Agricul-
tural Leadership Program. Her in-
terest in agriculture has led to in-
volvement in policy development
for the Farm Plus Plan, a facilita-
tor's role with the Ontario Agricul-
tural Training Institute, member-
, ship in the Huron County r
Federation of Agriculture and me-
diation work with the Farm Debt
Review Board.
Active on many community
boards and committees, Hazlitt has
served as a member of the Huron -
Perth -District Health Council steer-
ing committee, chaired the Col-
borne Township sesquicentennial
celebrations, edited the Colborne
Connections history book, and as-
sisted in planning and establishing
Meals on Wheels and The Diners
Club for Senior Citizens in Gode-
rch. She currently sits on the Hu-
ron Community Food Advisory
Committee and the Huron Employ-
ment Liaison Program Board.

she has honed her skills in media-
tion, training and business consulta-
tion.

Festival gearing up for
BLYTH - Excitement is mount-
ing at the Blyth Festival with just
two weeks remaining until the Box
Office opens and three months until
the 23rd season begins.
A •season kick-off celebration
was held in the Bainton Gallery
March 13 with sponsors, local me-
dia, board and community . mem-
bers present. Artistic,Director Janet
Amos spoke about the upcoming
season which opens June 20 with
the Blyth Festival classic Quiet in
the Land by Anne Chislett. This
portrait of an old -order Amish corn- •
munity during the World War I re-
ceived several awards after it pre-
miered at the Festival in 1981. The
season also includes Booze days in
a Dry County opening June 26,' a
collective directed by Paul'Thomp-
son about the lively lads returning
from World War 11 -and their run-
ins with Canada's Temperance Act;
There's Nothing in the Paper open-
ing July 23, a funny play about the
foibles of running a • small-town
newspaper by first time playwright
David Scott; The Melville Boys
opening July 30, a touching come-
dy about two brothers with oppo-
site personalities by popular Cana-
dian playwright Norm Foster;
Overboard! opening on the Second
Stage August 13, a funny one -
woman play by Deborah Kimmett;
and 'Barndance Live! opening Au -
gust 27, the hit of the. 1996 season
by Raoul Bhaneja, Eric Coates, An-
drew Dolha, Carolyn Hay, -Gary'
Muir, Jack Nicholsen and Paul
Thompson. Barndance Live! will
tour to Shelburne Town Hall Sep-
tember 15-20, . following its run in
Blyth:

The Festival Box Office opens to
members April 1 and to the general.
public April 14. Hours are Monday

30. Starting May 31, it will also be
open Saturdays until 5 p.m. From
June 17 to September 10, it open
Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m: to
8 p.m. (except non-performance
days when it closes at 5 p.m.). For
