By Mar eterson Centralia correspondent CENTRALIA - World Day • of Prayer was marked by an evening program at -Zion West United Church. Many people braved poor driving conditions to listen to guest speaker Muriel Coultes; President of the .National Consultation of Women. • "An Nyung Haseyo?" is the Ko- rean. greeting which means -Are you well?" With a Jong history of invasions from stronger' neighbor- ing countries, Koreans greet one another by asking if all has :been • well "with.them the previous night. In 1990. Korea was chosen to 'write the World Day of Prayer. ser- v.iee for 1997, with' the hope that women from both. North and South Korea would work together. The churches of Korea hoped that the 50th anniversary. of the end •of World War II would be commemo- rated as a.Jubilee.of Reunification: Thc painful division of Korea con-'-. unties, but in hope of reunification. the committee of South Korean Christian Women chose the theme 'Eike a Seed Which Grows Into a Tree". for the 1997 World Day of Prayer. Queensway residents look forward to Easter North Korea faces an impending famine. and the government has ap- pealed for international assistance. Two years of flooding have severe- ly restricted ,agricultural produc- tion. There are those who believe that already the famine is :worse than the Ethiopian famine of 1983- 84. Peter Snell and his.Grade 5 and 6 students joined the residents for a time of singing Wednesday after- noon.. Residents always thoroughly enjoy the time spent with the stu- dents and Snell. . Fun and Fitness started the day Thursday: The group. worked out to the music of the new CD received from Peter Snell. In the afternoon several residents enjoyed music appreciation and poetry reading. Baking group was busy Friday af- ternoon producing Shortbread Shamrocks. and a very interesting little •treat called Easter birds nests. Everyone had great fun. Lloyd Otterbein and Andrew Rau entertained Friday evening at Friendship Friday. Those old songs appealed to everyone and brought back many memories. • Midlred McNaughton. Mildred Gingerich, Muriel Gunning, Pearl Eyre_ and Annie Reid were pleased to attend Mary Roobals 85th birth- day open house held at the United Church Saturday afternoon.
