Patty and Allan Cast Teachers rally ...we need to know exactyc' how much will be speron each child in tlu#on... Dear Editor: • On•hehtrlt of the Huron Wooten Teachers Associ- auun. i wish to express my sincere thanks to the 3$O Huron teachers and education workers who support- • ed our rally : in their free time. on a Friday evening u• %usually demonstrate that. It push comes hi shove. and it the government goes too.far in its cuts and ton legislation. then there will be support behind our Icderauons and unions. • The attendance of workers and teachers -11.0m CUPL: SEII . FWTAO. OSSTF. OPSTF. and OE(' - TA did send a clear message that.this government has already damaged kids and workers in our sys- tems. and that it had better take heed before cross- ing over any lines into forbidden territory• such as outsourcing. messing with fair collective local bar- gaining. taking principals out of the bargaining unit. and making any more cuts to education. We thank Mrs. Johns for coming out iii address the federations and unions present: it was certainly a difficult thing for hen to do. but 1 kntni she will take our. message back to the government. in defense of Mrs. Johns. i would say that she has attempted to help the kids of Huron County by :ighling for a two-eou.rty amalgamation as opposed to a four- cuunty.union. Her fight in defense of education fi- nance refornt has culminated in a system that may be more advantageous to our children. Our message on Friday cane out loud and clear. that we need to know exactly how much will be spent on vetch child • in Huron. that the government definition of "class- room" needs to be more loosely defined. and that re- duced restrictions on outsourcing and standards should not be tolerated! Oar thanks to thc folks in Exeter. We know we in- convenienced your traffic• and businesses for a half , hour on Friday. and we thank you for your under- . standing. We appreciate the help and good humour- of the local constabulary in diverting traffic and en- suring the safety of.all those present: Thanks go also to the grocery stores which donated carts for our food drive. Teachers and education employees at- tending the rally each donated -non-perishable items to the Exeter and Clinton Food Banks. Because they see the affects of the cuts to needy children each -day at school. they chose to act from their heans in pro- • viding help to those who are most affected by this government's cuts. at a time of year when the food banks arc especially in need of resources: Thanks to the Exeter Public School staff. and Dianne Waun for their help. during report card time. in making labels and arranging for the cans. it.may nu't have looked like it - but those four carts almost •filled my van with food! Most of all thanks to thc Union ant Federations leaders in the Huron Education Coalition for their orgamtuon of the event. and for you. the members, for scalding up behind us. for marching along be- st , for supporting us with your messages.
