Draw winner announced in Zurich
Robert Becker won
tickets to the Grand
Theatre.

ZURICH - Robert A. Becker of
Grand Bend was the winner of the
February draw of the Chamber of
Commerce. He won a weekend for
two and tickets to the Grand Thea-
tre plus $50 spending money..
The next draw will be 'on March
1 to Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville.
A progressive •euchre party held
by the Golden Agers at'the Town-
ship Hall on January 27 'had eight
tables in play.
Winners of the pink cards were:
Marie Gelinas Sr, Zurich and Gla-
dys Peck, Varna. Winners of the
white cards were: Emil Becker,
Dashwood and Marie Cyr, Zurich.
Lone hands were a tie between Mo-
zart Gelinas Sr., Zurich and Isabel
Rogerson, Hensall. '
Lucky draws were won by Philis
Deichert, Catherine Becker, Dash-.
wood, Mozart Gelinas Sr. and Ross
McDonald, Varna.
The next card party will be held
at the hall on February 24 at 7:30 .

The Canadian Foodgrains, Banka
is having a roast beef luncheon at
the United Church in Hensall on
February. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. Tickets are available. for

- The Grand Bend Winter Carnival
- fashion show was held at the Le-
gion last Friday night with standing
room only left in the hall. Master of
ceremonies was Dave Sheppard
' who officially opened the l 6th an-
nual Carnival along with mascot`
- Ben Guin. -
February is Heart and Stroke •
Month. Volunteer canvassers are
needed in the village of Zurich. if
you can help phone -Captain Cyn-
thia Strickland at 236-7114 ,as soon
as possible.
The next Chamber of Commerce
meeting will be held at the Domin-
ion Tavern on February ' 18 with
dinner at 7 p.m.
- The Girl's Club met at the Men-
nonite Church last Thursday eve-
ning • and made some Valentine
crafts, candles and cookies.
The St. Boniface Youth Group
met the same night. Some went
bowling at the Town •and Country
Lanes and others went to the Parish '
Hall to hear Sister Susan speak on
• vocations.
• The Lions Club will be having a `
dinner/meeting.at the Dominion
Tavern tonightFebruary 12 at 7
p.m. .
All Lions and guests are wel-'
come to plan their upcoming Elimi-
nation Draw and fun night on
March 7, at the Zurich Community
Centre. Tickets are available at $10
each from Lion Club members,
President Louis Willert or at J&L
Variety Store. This includes all the
beef burgers you can eat. Draws
start at 7 p.m.
On February 26, St. Boniface
School Council are having an open
meeting in the gym at 7:30 p.m.
All parents are welcome to attend.
St. Boniface Parish will be hav-
ing a bake sale to raise money for
Bro. Bob Mittleholtz in India after
all Masses on February 15 and 16..,
A donation box will be available if
you are too busy -to bake.
A pancake supper was held at Si
Peter's Lutheran Church Hall on
Tuesday evening as Ash Wednes-
day and the beginning of Lent
starts February 12.
The Golden Agers held their Feb-
ruary meeting on February 10 at 2
p.m. "in the Township Hall. The
next card party will be held on Feb-
ruary 24 at 7:30 p.ni.
The Hay Days '96 Committee
are hosting a wind-up party at the
Zurich' Community Centre. on April
18 at 9 p.m. to'thank those volun-
teers who helped- throughout last
year's celebration. .To attend, this

• The Valentine semi -formal is tomorrow night. It is called "Smoo-
chit' Pamplemousse" for some strange reason. It starts -at 7:30 p.m. .
and rusts until 11 p.m. -so the grade 9's can get a goodnights sleep.
Tickets aro on sale in the main'foyer at lunch and cost $6 for•singles
and $10 for couples. You can't wear shoes into the gym because the.
•floor was redone for the basketball and volleyball teams. -
Welcome Night takes place tonight: All grade 8 and 9•students-and
their parents are encouraged to attend the Welcome Night and Course
Selection information evening at the high school for information ses-
sions, tours and refreshments. Teachers, councillors, and administra-
tors will be happy to answer questions and concerns. Information ses-
sions for grade 8's are in the large gym from 7 to 7:30 p.m. while •
' sessions for grade' 9's are in the small gym at the same time.
On Monday, the Pep Rally' was held. All school organizations were
recogni zed.' •
Ryan Parker will try and lead the Midget.Boys Basketball team to
their first -win of the season. Their current effort is 0-7 despite strong
tcam.efforts. Good luck!
The South Huron Recreation Centre will be hosting a National
Coaching Certification Program Theory Level I Course this April. The
course covers important principals in coaching such as planning, sport
safety, skill analysis, growth and development and also helps the
coach understand why athletes participate. •
This two day course helps prepare the coach to teach skills and
design safe, enjoyable and challenging practices. •

•.Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (both'

• $60 fee (includes manual and workbook)
• minimum of 15 participants required to proceed

Dog tags are soon due in the Vil-
lage of Zurich for 1997. Any own-
ers with new dogs that aren't on
. the list from last year are to call
Carmel Sweeney as soon as possi-
ble at 236-4702.
A dance is being held at the
Dashwood Community Centre on
Saturday night, February 15 at 9
p.m. It will cost $15 per couple
with music by Dr. Darrell.
The Zurich Women's Institute
will be having a 100th anniversary'
meeting and program at the Hay
Township Hall on February 19 at
1:30 p.m. to celebrate the begin-
ning of the Women's Institute..
Dashwood W.I. will be their
guests. All past and present mem-
bers are invited to attend.
The public school Advisory
Council are sponsoring a skate -a-
than . at the arena on February 12.
for students and their families.
Money raised from, the sponsor
sheets will go towards the school's
. playground restoration project._
' There will be free popcorn and
hot chocolate available. •
The Zurich and Area Skating
Club is busy getting costumes, mu-
sic, and props ready for their up-
coming carnival on March 9 at 2
p.m. This year's -theme is -"The
Olympic Dream". The Exeter Skat-
ing
Club will be having their carni-
val at the Rec Centre on March 2.
Tickets will soon be on sale at
the High School in Exeter to see
"The Lion King" from February
26-28 and March 1. All seats are
advance and cost $5.
A Youth Leadership Ministry
-weekend was held at Regina Mun-
di College in London February 1
and 2 with. seven attending from
the area of St. Boniface and St. Pe-
ter's Parish, St. Joseph.
.. An Auxiliary meeting was; held
at the rest home on February 4, be-
ginning with a musical program by
Max Duchae and his group
along rmwith•Lois Hodgins, Crediton
calling some square 'dances. Mini
Pearl was also on hand.
President Martha Risi welcomed
the 24 members and three visitors
present.
A quilt is.set up in the resident's
Common Room and everyone is in-
vited to come out and work at it.
Region (#3) meeting. is being
held at the Blue Water Home on
April 23. •
February 19 is the Birthday Party
hosted by the C.W.L. Grand Bend
women.
Aprons and mitts are needed for
the Tuck Shop. The next meeting is
On March4. •

A surprise 85th birthday party
was held for (Lloyd) Ted Klopp on
.February 2 with some relatives
helping him celebrate. The actual
date of his birthday is February 4.
Bernadette Denomme recently
spent two weeks vacationing in
Bradenton, Florida with friends.
Rachael Dianne Regier, daughter
of Chris and Sandra was baptized
on :February 9 at St: Boniface
Church by Fr. Wronski along with

week's vacation recently in Can-
