IERRI I 1I4 1 ARM tt)L1IPME N T LIMI I LL) 1-800481.6089 It has been 65 years since Valentine Becker first started providing area farmers with the latest farm equipment, parts and service. From humble beginnings in 1932 as a McCormick -Deering dealership, Becker Farm Equipment has grown into a sizable company employing 26 area residents. In 1948, V.L. Becker became V.L. Becker and Sons as son Bill who is now president and parts manager joined his father in the business. . When the merger of Case and International Harvester took place in January of 1985, one of the requirements of Becker Farm Equipment was to expand into the Exeter area. Now general manager Bob Becker says, "We started immediately to search for a suitable property and were able to purchase the International Harvester dealership and property owned by Nelson Monteith at our present location at 615 Main street in Exeter. We opened here on March 1.1986. This hada huge effect on our family business." The present Becker Farm Equipment facility comprises five acres of land with 22,000 square feet of building space including 8,000 square feet of off-site rented storage space. From the very beginning, expert service, parts and repairs have been the specialty of Becker Farm Equipment. Bill's 50 years with the company has provided an excellent source of expertise and continuity in the parts department. Bob Becker says. "Our parts department's experience, knowledge and inventory is recognized by customers throughout Ontario and by Case IH - as one of the best." Bill says, "The parts department is the backbone of a successful dealership. We are generally the first contact with a customer and it's important.to be helpful and have the inventory available. It gives you a good feeling to be -able to say, "Yes, we have exactly what you need." The amount of stock we carry is important. It gets people to come in. Our service department also covets the needs of customers in a large - territory." -He continued. " The basic tole of the parts area hasn't changed much in 65 years. Hopefully we can satisfy the customers and get them back in the field -with the least down time possible. What has changed is the size of the operation and the eter increasing number of parts that a dealer must carry. Being computerized means we can track more parts faster and more accurately. In addition to being a full line Case International Harvester dealer. Becker's also represent in excess of 50 short -line suppliers and manufacturers: Bob Becker says about changes in the last 50 years. " In the 1940's and 50's we had Farmall Cubs, Super A's, H's. W4's and W6's with up to 70 horsepower. Some of these are still operating..Now we sell tractors with horsepower ranging from 40 to 400." One of the newest Case 1H lines is a Quadtrac tractor with four unique tracks that give a smoother ride, superior traction. less compaction and greater flotation that cannot be matched by four-wheel or two -track designs. the purpose of the Quadtrac rubber tracks is to reduce compaction. but still provides equivalent speeds on roads and gives ease of handling. A tractor. this large and unusual, is bound to create some pretty high expectations. Quadtrac delivers in a big way. Designed and built from the ground up to be the finest track tractor in the world, Quadtrac is nothing less than an engineering marvel. Becker staff members and customers will be attending an advanced farming system seminar in February in Hamilton and sales staff will be travelling to Phoenix, Arizona, also in February to see the introduction of new tractors and equipment. - Becker Farm Equipment is well known for a number of special annual events. These range from sprayer clinics, combine clinics, trips to the Toronto Farm Show and the outdoor farm show which will be held this year on the University of Guelph property at Woodstock. Becker's also participate in local field demonstrations, area county plowing matches and the International Plowing Match. The local Case IH dealership's annual parts trade fair continues to be very popular for Western Ontario farmers. This year it will be held in March at the Becker location in Exeter. The parts fairs are a unique opportunity for employees to talk things over with customers on a one-on- one basis There are tremendous volume buying discounts available on these days. Becker Farm Equipment continues tQ be an active partner in the community, sponsoring athletic teams and clubs, and raising funds for local non-profit groups. -We're here to serve you... - 860 jagamEtment Bill Becker (president and parts manager), Ed Skinner, Casey Van Hooydbnk, John Becker, KMhy Keller Attydeakin• Don Masse (manager), Jim Hyde, Sharon Blake, Brad Murray, Joe Lacey, Jim Landsborough, Jamie Lacey, Chris Stevenson, Peter Jacobs, Darryl Lacey, Jeremy Becker, Jeff Amos, Adrian Brand • Bob Becker (manager), Len Lobb, Jerry Fuhr, May Becker.
