ZURICH - The Lions Club held a
dinner and meeting at the Domin-
ion Tavern on January 8 with 13.
Lions present. Anyone interested in
joining the Lions Club arc to phone
President Louis Willert at 236-
4240. The next meeting is sched-
uled for February 12 at 7 p.m.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Blue
Water Rest Home held their month-
ly meeting on. January 7, beginning
with a musical program of piano
playing and singing by sisters Ai-
mee Rau and Chantel Gelinas.
Following lunch the residents re-
turned to their rooms and 28 mem-
bers answered the �Il call with
how many volunteer hours they did
in the home during the past month.
If anyone is interested in helping
at the Tuck Shop from 1-4 p.m.
during the week are to phone Lau-
rene Corriveau.
The new executive arc: past pres-
ident Donna Klopp; president Mar-
tha Risi; first vice Gladys Ginge-
rich; secretary Mary -Lou
Denomme; treasurer Mary Du-
charme; card convener Verda
Baechler; social conveners Mary
(Calvin) Gingerich and Grace Mar-
tin; membership Helen Otterbein.
The installation of officers will
he held at the next meeting on Feb-
ruary 4.
President and past president pins
were exchanged and Klopp read a
report of happenings during her last
two years in office. Risi was wel-
comed as the new president.
Conveners gave their annual re-
ports on various jobs.
The birthday party was held on
January 14, organized by Dash-
wood United Church.
Alquilt top is to he set up soon at
the Home for quilting. The draw
will be made at the family- dinner
in June.
Aprons are needed to place for
sale in the Tuck Shop.
A motion was made to look into
fixing the organ in the auditorium.
A soup and sandwich luncheon
was held at the Mennonite Church
Hall on Sunday following the
morning service.
Members of the Girl's Club and
their leaders made home-made
soup on Saturday and each girl
brought sandwiches from home.
On January_ 23 the girls will he
going bowling' at 6:30 p.m.
The next Chamber of Commerce
dinner and meeting will he held at
Erb's Country Kitchen on January
21 at 7 p.m. The new president is
Brian McHugh of Westlake's Insu-
rance in Zurich.
A reminder to those wanting to
attend the Agricultural Society an-
nual dinner and meeting on Janu-
ary 16 are to phone Margaret
Deichert (4130). Dinner is sched-
uled at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting
at 8 p.m.
The St. Boniface C.W.L. meeting
will be held on January 21 follow-
ing 7:30 Mass for vocations.

Congratulations to Sandra and
Chris Regier. Zurich, on the arrival
of their second daughter, Rachel
Dianne, horn on January 11. She is
the twenty-seventh grandchild for
Clare and Mary-Fae Regier, RR 3
Zurich and the fifth grandchild for
Dave and Carol Stecklc, RR 2 Zu-
rich.
Marion Becker from the Dash-
wood area has moved into the for-
mer home of Clarence Gascho on
Frederick Street.
Kyle and Jo Koloff and family
from the Exeter area have moved
into the former convent on Mary
Street.
Best wishes for a speedy recov-
ery arc extended.to Josephine Die-
trich, Earl Deichert and Rose-
Maric (Joe) Regier, who arc pa-
tients in hospital.
Tom Regier, son of Peter and
Bonnie, London, is attending uni-
versity in Calgary. He was home
for the Christmas holidays visiting
his parents and relatives and his
grandparents in Zurich, Clem and
Theresa Regier and Lee and Roso
Regier.,
On Saturday a surprise 40th
birthday party was held for twins
Paul Klopp, Zurich and sister Lin-
da Earle, London at the Hay Town-
ship Hall. The evening was in the
form of a roast or toast for the cele-
brants and karaoke followed by a
lunch, cake and presents. On Sun-
day, the Klopp family enjoyed
brunch at Erb's Country Kitchen.

"Just Because It's January" theme
at Queensway Nursing Home dance
HENSALL - Monday evening Queensway Auxiliary
volunteers met to discuss upcoming January events.
Residents met following the Auxiliary meeting to
work out at Fun and Fitness. In the afternoon a delight-
ful comedy video entitled "It Takes Two" was shown
to an attentive audience.
Rev. Tuininga of Exeter Christian Reform Church
led worship service Tuesday with a wonderful message
on prayer.
Several retirement home residents attended Breakfast
Cluh Wednesday morning with a lively discussion of
current events taking place.
Winnie Hutton, Pastoral care volunteer led Bible
Study Wednesday afternoon.
"Just Because its January" was the theme of the
dance on Thursday afternoon when The Nashville Re-
jects entertained. Delicious trifle was served during re-
freshment time following the program.
Diners attending the bi-monthly Dining In Program
remained to watch a very informative video called
"The Wonders of Gods Creation, Planet Earth", shown
in the evening.
Residents and staff of Queensway would like to *wish
everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year for 1997 and
remind you that we welcome friends and family to join
us for any scheduled events.

The Stop Smoking Program for Women in Huron County 17
A series highlighting a nine -week program that helps local women to break the habit. ,

EXETER - Just in time for following up on a
traditional New Year's resolution - quit smoking -
the Huron. County Action Group on Women and
Smoking is holding a support group for women
beginning Jan. 21 in Exeter.
During the past year, seven stop
smoking groups have been
attended by more than 130
women across the county.
Eighty per cent of the
participants have reduced
their nicotine
consumption whd. 36
per cent have quit
smoking.
"Many women come
to the groups
uncertain about their
commitment to
quitting," explained
Group
Coordinator/Facilitator Ruth Cooper in a recent
press release. "They learn more about why they
smoke, their triggers and what they really want:for
themselves...Knowing when you are ready is half
the battle."
The sessions include a 'getting acquainted'
.introduction followed by stress rnanagenicnt, tips for
quitting, coping with withdrawal, seeking support,
overcoming roadblocks/relapses, assertiveness, anger
management, healing, self-esteem, maintaining. •
weight/physical activity, and i
celebrating/evaluating. Limited to 20
participants, the program includes
keeping a smoker's journal and •

individually, If sessions continue,

don't know at this point," said Cooper, stating $25 to
$35 per course as a starting point.

ia and Hensall communities with
the exchanges 228 and 262 will be
upgraded to a fully -modern digital
network. The completion date for
Centralia will be September 30,
1997 and Hensall's completion date
will be December 31, 1997. This al-
lows greater reliability in your
