GRAND BEND - The Immacu-
late Heart of Mary Council of the
Catholic Women's League met in
the Grand Bend parish hall on De-
cember 3 for their election meeting.
President Gera Peters chaired a
brief business session, thanking the
committee who organized the CWL
40th anniversary celebration, and
all those members who attended.
She also thanked everyone who
helped to cater the lunch for the Al-
hambra dance in November, and all
who turned in their grocery tapes.
These two fundraisers will contrib-
ute over $1,000 toward charitable
donations.
The Christmas Ecumenical was
scheduled for December 10 at 7:30
p.m. in St. Johns' Anglican Church,
and all members were encouraged
to attend. A letter was read from
the group's sponsored family
through the Save -A -Family pro -
gran: in India. December 8 was the
feast of the Immaculate Conception
of Mary, and Respect for Life Day.
Lia Vandenberk, Christian Family
life Convener, sold Pro -Life Christ-
mas cards and other materials after
all weekend Masses.
CWL members were encouraged
to share Christmas with others, by
visiting the sick and shut-ins or do-
nating to the needy on the two
White Gift Sundays, December 7
and 8 and 14 and 15. Gifts (labelled
for contents and age) plus food can
be donated during those two week-
ends at Mass, then collected for dis-
tribution by the Lioness Club. An-
other idea is to find out which rest
home residents don't receive much
mail and send them a lovely Christ-
mas card from "Santa Claus."
The parish will be celebrating the
pastor's birthday on December 15
after the 11 a.m. Mass. Toni Van-
denberk has eight names for parish
Christmas baskets so far, and Josy
Britton is taking names for cards.
Father Beck encourages everyone
to attend weekday Advent devo-
tions.
The next meeting will be held on
February 4, when plans will he
made to entertain the seniors at
Blue Water Rest Home.
The meeting adjourned and Lia
Vandenberk conducted the elec-
tions as Nominations chair. The
new slate of officers for 1996-
1998: Past -president Gera Peters,
