Bank donation The Bank of Montreal in Exeter donated $1,500 to the Huron County Christmas Bureau on Thursday. The money was raised at the second annual fashion show held on Nov.14 with the help of six local clothing stores: Sisters, European Addition, Anne's Fashionation, Designers, Horse'n Around, and the Purple Turtle. Christmas Bureau receives donation EXETER - According to Gil Ru- shorne, volunteer manager for the Huron County Christmas Bureau, the organization'rs mandate is sim- ple. "We want every youngster to have a full Christmas," said Ru- shorne. "That means putting a smile on their faces and food in their stomachs." The Christmas Bureau has been busy collecting food and cash dona- tions for needy children this holi- day season and on Thursday they received a much needed boost. The charitable organization re- ceived $1,500 from the Bank of Montreal in Exeter in the morning and a $2,000 donation from the Ex- eter Lions Club in the afternoon. Huron Tractor also donated a rp tu- ber of toys and will hold a fundrais- ing potluck lunch for the Christmas Bureau on Friday. Standing in the downstairs room at Caven Presbyterian Church in II the Times -Advocate 2354331 Exeter, which is acting as the Christmas Bureau headquarters, Gil's brother, distribution coordina- tor, Reverend Rushorne points to the stacks of non-perishable food and boxes of donated toys. "The community support has been great," he said adding there are 400 children in Huron County who will depend on the Christmas Bureau this year. "Our numbers this year is far greater than it ever has before and it's exciting to see the community rally to support those in need." The Christmas Bureau is accept- ing donations for the week of Dec. 9. Res- idents had a wonderful time hosting their family members. Bill Gibson and Joyce Pepper provided piano music throughout the meal with a variety of Christmas tunes. The Seaforth Harmony Kings vis- ited November 26 and residents en- joyed an evening of their barber- shop harmony. Gladys Van Egmond and Her Merry Makers entertained at the November Birthday Party. December 3 Rev. Henry Annen of Hensall United Church with as- sistance from Belva Fuss, Hilda Payne and Hazel Corbett gave Communion to residents and led a meaningful church service. Tuesday evening, The Christian Reformed Singers visited and shared a program of Christmas hymns followed by a very enjoya- ble time of refreshments and fel- lowship. The Grand Cove Choir of Grand Bend sang Thursday afternoon. Their singing was great and they also demonstrate showmanship with their Santa hats and Christmas outfits. Friday evening found Retirement Golden Agers entertained GRAND BEND - Santa was rep- resented by his 24 elves at the Grand Bend Golden Agers Christ- mas party last Wednesday at the Legion. One hundred and twenty-nine members enjoyed the dry wit of red -nosed "Larry" leading his mer- ry band through an entertaining va- riety of Christmas and secular mu- sic. Featured elves were Carl Rood, Keith Haynes, Fred Willert and the "combo". Teachers Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Soldon led Grand Bend's grades two, three, four and five students in a well -rehearsed variety of Christ- mas tunes. Bert Pullen told the Golden Ag - em about the amalgamation meet- ing on December 7 indicating that the closing of the Exeter hospital would be an important part of the agenda.
