Shopping spree

Darling's Food Market last Tuesday. The. annual Lucan Optimist fundraiser raised $1,765
minus the cost of what the two winners put in their shopping carts during the spree.
Gollan managed to throw $578 worth of groceries in the cart during his two minute limit
and Heighway scooped $125 in 30 seconds.
Family dance planned
Santa will be at the
December 20 dance.

VARNA - The Stan Lee Club
held their annual Christmas meet-
ing at the Blue Fountain in Clinton
on December 4. There were 45 peo-
ple who enjoyed the dinner.
Bob Heywood entertained the
group with his accordion.
Two poinsettias were won by
May McBride and Bob Heywood.
Thanks ,was given to the janitors of
tie, 'Staff It y', domptex,Doug and
Mildred McAsh. The evening end-
ed with euchre being played and
prizes given.
The next meeting will be held
January 7 at 12:30 p.m. with a soup
and sandwich lunch.
Varna -Goshen Church service
was held in Varna on Sunday with
it being the second Sunday of Ad-
vent. The candle of peace was lit
by Lori, Rod and Katrina Merner.
December 15 a short Christmas
Concert will be held after the wor-
'ship. A potluck lunch of sandwich -
and finger desserts will be held
afterwards.
The Trends will meet at the
Brucefield Church on December 13
at 7 p.m. The Teens will meet De-
cember 15 at 2 p.m. at the Bruce -
field Church.
A special service of worship and
healing will be held December 22
at 7:30 p.m. in the Varna Church.
This will be a Christmas service of
prayers, scripture and music.
The Christmas Eve service will
be a candlelight service of worship
at 7:30 p.m. at the Varna Church.
Truck elimination draw tickets
are available from the Stanley
Township Rec committee, Council
members or at the Stanley Town-
ship Office. The first early bird
draw for $500 will be held Decem-
ber 31, the second draw for $250
in Varna
on February 15 and the third on
April 6. The final draw will be held
May 31 with a dance and lunch.
The proceeds will go to upgrade
the Stanley Township recreational
equipment.
The Stanley Township Recrea-
tion Committee is planning a
Christmas Family Dance to held
December 20 from 8 to 12 p.m.
The cost is $10 per family and $5
per single. This includes hotdogs
and the women are asked to bring
finger desserts. Santa will be visit-
ing.

ACW members exchange Christmas gifts'
The group held a
Christmas meeting on
December 4.

SAINTSBURY - On December
4, 10 ACW members met at the
home of Hazel Davis at 7:30 p.m.
Rose Cunningham opened the
meeting with prayer and welcome
and the Members Prayer and Gen-
eral Thanksgiving were said in uni-
son.
Prayers and scriptures were giv-
en. Rose Cunningham presented a
message entitled "Joyful Meaning
of Christmas" followed by a hymn.
Reports were read. Christmas
gifts for shutins, Fair Share, the
Christmas Pageant and social time,
and the Christmas Eve service on
December 24 at 7 p.m. were dis-
cussed.
Reports on fundraisers were giv-
en and cookbook ideas were dis-
cussed.
The roll call was answered with
Christmas verses, poems and
prayers. The members exchanged
gifts. A collection for Daily Bread
was delivered on Friday.

Carol Hardy spoke on the history
of the church.
On December 8 St. Patrick's held
their Morning Prayer service at
10:30 a.m. Heather MacGillivray
was leader for the service. Suzanne
Davis read the scripture and Mar-
garet Carroll gave the message.
The children's focus was the "His-
tory and Meaning of Advent".
Caleb and Corbin MacGillivray
lit the second candle of Advent, the
candle of peace.
The Sunday School children sang
"We are Waiting Lord" before go-
ing to their classes.
On December 15 St. Patrick's
will celebrate Morning Prayer at
10:30 a.m.
Cousins Mabel Needham and
Greta Gibson were visitors for tea
with Mary Davis one day this past
week.
