the school, from junior kindergarten to grade eight, participated by ueL t' -.y replicas
of tiny greeting cards, mail boxes and wreaths. Fifty-eight local businesses sponsored .a
decoration on the display and the money will go toward purchasing new playground equip-
ment for the school. Each item will have a tag on it identifying the children who worked on
it. The finished gingerbread project will be set up for viewing at Pizza Delight in Grand Bend
for the month of December.

November 26, 1986 - The executive of the Western Ontario North
Liberal Association is endorsing John Turner as leader of the federal
Liberal Party.
As the result of a vote Sunday, 25 employees of GRW Industries
at Huron Park went on strike Monday morning.
On Friday, November 28, the Ontario Ministry of revenue will
mail $50 sales tax grant cheques to approximately 987,000 Ontario
seniors.
25 YEARS AGO
November 26, 1971 - Lucan farmer Don Revington took the long
trip home after leaving Medicine Hat where he had been on a busi-
ness trip. After leaving Calgary and passing over Regina, passengers
were told they would arrive in Toronto in an hour. Shortly after they
heard a bang and the plane cut down on motor speed.
They were then told they would be making an emergency landing
at Downsview. After circling for a couple of hours they were told
they had been hijacked and were now in Montana where ransom
money was picked up. They started to return to Regina when the hi-
jacker changed his mind and the plane returned to Montana where
passengers were disembarked and eventually bussed to Great Falls
city airport and then by relief plane to Toronto.

November 25, 1961 - Mrs. Allan Gascho of Zurich was crowned
Sweetheart of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority at the group's annual ball
Thursday night.
Lee Learn was named corresponding secretary of the Presbyterian
Men of Stratford Presbytery at a meeting Monday night in Knox
Presbyterian Church in Stratford.
Mayor -elect Eldrid Simmons will be the youngest chief magistrate
in the town's history when he is sworn into office in January.
40 YEARS AGO
November 28, 1856 - Robert Down, 19 year-old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Down, has been awarded a $100 Scholarship by Hu-
ron County Council. It is given to the student from the county who
obtains the highest standing while attending Ridgetown Agricultural
College.
A sell-out crowd attended the premiere performance of the Exeter
Drama Club's, "Peg 0' My Heart", Wednesday night. Featured in
the cast were Marjorie Dilkes, Jack Fulcher, Audrey Bentley, Jim
Carter, John Hendrick, Gerald Godbolt, Edna Glaab, and Bob Rus-
sell. Director was John Goman.
Huronia Male Chorus, the district's most outstanding musical or-
ganization during the past nine years, agreed to disband at a meeting
Tuesday night. Officials gave reasons for the demise as lack of inter-
est and members.
50 YEARS AGO
November 27, 1946 - Over $1,200 has been subscribed to the Ex-
eter Agricultural Society to help meet expenses in connection with
the new park.
Warden R.E. Shaddick of Hensall was presented with a clock at
the annual warden's banquet in the British Exchange Hotel in Gode-
rich.
The newly formed Dashwood Public Library is located in Tie -
man's Furniture store.
Fire swept uncontrolled through several miles of marsh land south
of Grand Bend, Sunday afternoon. The fire was checked by an early
Monday morning downpour.
75 YEARS AGO
November 26, 1921 - In Caven Church on Sunday evening Mr.
G.S. Howard and Mr. F.W. Gladman gave addresses at a meeting of
the Young People's Guild.
Mr. Hector Rowcliffe was successful in carrying off several prizes
at the Kitchener Poultry Show with his chickens.
The Ladies Aid of Main Street Methodist Church sponsored a tea
on Friday evening. After supper, a program was given comprised of
a reading by Miss Jean Walker, solos by Miss Huston , Miss Edna
Follick and Mrs. Rev. Foote.
The "Shepherds of the Hills" put on in the Dome Theatre Monday
night last, drew a large and appreciative audience, the hall being
packed.
100 YEARS AGO
November 27, 1896 - At the services last Sunday in the Main
Street Methodist Church in connection with the superannuation
fund, a goodly collection was raised.
It is somewhat remarkable to find that there are yet 4,270 working
oxen in the Province of Ontario. In Huron county there are 218, and
in Bruce 211. Neither Middlesex or Perth was credited with working
oxen.
Owing to the cylinder of the engine at the electric power house
bursting, Monday evening, the town has been in comparative dark-
ness since.
L. Day's new butcher shop is specializing this weekend in head
cheese available in 1, 2 and 3 pound bowels.
