Gordon De Jong, Zone Com- mander of Zone CI (comprised of 10 Legion branches in Huron County, plus one in Perth and two in Bruce) presented 60 copies of the booklet 'Lest We Forget: 161st Battalion of Huron' to Roxanne Brown, chair of the Huron County Board of Education and vice chair Allen Carter, member for Tucker - smith and Hensel!, atthe board of- fice recently. Each of the 24 public elementary and six secondary schools in Huron will receive two copies. A similar presentation was made at the Huron -Perth Separate School Board office in Dublin to Dr. Jim Brown, director of education, Gae- tan Blanchette, superintendent of education, and board member Mike Miller. Twenty-two copies will be distributed to the two secondary schools and nine of the 10 elemen- tary schools under that board's ju- risdiction. (Classes at the tenth school go only to grade three.) 'Lest We Forget' was commis- sioned to honor, remember and give thanks for the valiant men who served in the 161st Battalion of Hu- ron County. Eighty years ago this month 35 officers and 790 NCOs and enlisted men from across the county sailed from Halifax and landed at Liverpool to "do their bit" for an England at war. They took part in the bloodiest battles of a war that wasted thousands of young lives, and acquitted themselves ad- mirably. One hundred and thirty- two were killed or died of their wounds. The booklet gives a brief account SOUTH HURON CHIROPRACTIC CENTRE 493 MAIN ST. S., EXETER Member of the ACUPUNCTURE COUNCIL OF ONTARIO DP "NRK E JO'•ES PHONE 235-4892 FAX 235-2589 of some of World War I's famous - or infamous - battles. Members of the 161st were in each from late 1916 until the armistice. The death of thousands is hard to compre- hend. The poignant story of Private Bad Johns, killed less than a year after sailing from Halifax, hits one in the heart. Two widows of 161st veterans recall their memories of that time. 'Lest We Forget' should give young people three or more genera- tions removed from this chapter in Canada's history a deeper aware- ness and appreciation of the mean- ing of Remembrance Day, and why a ceremony is held each year since that first November 1 I in 1918 that brought an appalling and senseless slaughter to an end. The book is available for $3 at the Exeter and Hensall municipal offices. Asthma! ALLERGIES Do you suffer from these symptoms? Do you also suffer from sinuses, breathing difficulties?
