Winter coats needed
The Masonic Fraterni-
ty. is collecting the
coats for children in
need.

Varna correspondent
VARNA - The combined Varna -
Goshen Church service was held in
Goshen on Sunday with a coffee
hour and a time of fellowship prior
to the service.
It was National Children's Sun-
day so the children took a big part
in the service.
On November 24 the church will
be collecting donations for the food
bank in Clinton. Baby food and dia-
pets are always needed as well as
other non-perishable food items.
The coats are still coming in for
the Masonic Fraternity. If you have
good used winter coats for children
six months up to 16 years, please
bring them to the church.
Tracy Crick will be starting a
bible study November 27 at 9:30
a.m. at the Varna Church. This will
be every Wednesday morning for
the Advent season.
The Teen and Trends Youth
Groups will be meeting November
24 at the Brucefield Church at 2
p.m. to go bowling.
The community's sincere sympa-
thy and prayers go to Tracy Crick
on the death of her grandfather.
Residents and buddies team up
HENSALL - Hensall Girl
Guides, under the leadership of
Kim Bilcke, held their monthly
meeting at Queensway Nursing
Home and following their meeting,
each Girl Guide met with their
Buddy. Queensway Retirement
Home residents will meet with their
buddies once each month and share
a visit or game.
Remembrance Day was discussed
at the Monday morning session and
residents reminisced about what
war time was like and why we must
never forget the price that many
paid for our freedom. "In Flanders
Fields" was read and reflected
upon.
Shirley Luther led the worship
service on Tuesday and a time of
fellowship was enjoyed afterward.
Breakfast Club met on Wednes-
day morning and pancakes, syrup
and bacon was the menu decided
upon. Several residents lingered
over second helpings and coffee. A
Lawrence Welk tape was played as
breakfast music.
Thursday evening diners stayed
and viewed a Little House on the
Prairie episode "The ,hristmas
They Never Forgot".
Geri Fashions set up shop in the
Activity Room on Friday. It was a
busy day as several residents, fami-
lies and community members did
their shopping.
The Retirement Home Lounge
was rocking Friday evening as
Clare Masse and Andrew Rau pre-
sented their unique brand of music.
There was lots of singing along as
residents recognized old favorites.
Entertainment is featured the first
and third Friday evening of each
month in the Lounge. If you have a
special musical talent you would
like to share with us feel free to call
Carol Gascho at 262-2830.

Hip fractures can be fatal in the elderly. A prototype
pair of padded underpants has been developed In
Canada. The padding Is on the.et'de because the eld-
erly who fraeture their hips tend to fall sideways. If
the trials conducted on these pants are successful,
they will be available to the public.
The year 1944 saw the first fluoridation of a water
supply to prevent dental decay. After 52 years of use, there is still controversy
about fluoridation but the conclusion of most dentists and other health profes-
sionals is that it is a safe method of protecting our teeth from cavities.
Floss is an important part of a good dental hygiene program. The first dental
floss was made commercially out of silk away back in 1882. We all know the
value of flossing but statistics on purchases show we don't floss as much as
we should. Have you flossed today?
Nitroglycerin first won fame as an explosive in 1846. In later years it was found
to be beneficial in dilating the blood vessels to the heart and is still used today
to help patients with angina. Originally made in a sub(ingual (under the tongue)
tablet, it is now also available in a much more stable ray format.
After meals? Before meals? With water or milk? Will it make me drowsy? Is it
OK to have an alcoholic drink with this medication? These are just some of the
questions in peoples' minds when they receive a new prescription. We'll make
sure you know the answers.
