THAMES ROAD - The Novem-
ber meeting of the Thames Road
U.C.W. was held on Monday eve-
ning in the church basement with
29 women and two visitors present.
The meeting table was covered
with the U.C.W. tablecloth, a cross,
poppies and colored leaves. The
meeting's theme was "Remem-
brance".
Anne Kernick welcomed every-
one and gave a reading about John
McRae who wrote "In Flanders
Fields".
Jean Hodgert read scripture and
Kornier'Pedtt- lfirem about pop=
pies. Dorothy Duncan led in prayer.
Hodgert read letters about Private
Earl Johns who belonged to the
161st Battalion of Huron County.
Dorothy Duncan read letters from
Robert Passmore to Ruby Duncan,
his sister, from 1916 and she also
talked about the Passmore relatives.
Kernick closed the worships ser-
vice with a poem "Active Remem-
brance".
Julene Riley demonstrated Tup-
perware.
Officers for 1997 will be: past
president Margaret Stewart; presi-
dent Beatrice Dawson; first vice
president Jean Hodgert; second
vice president Janis Richardson;
secretary Diane Jeffery; assistant
secretary Kay Cunnington; treasur-
er Marilyn Pym; pianist Jean Hod-

garet Stewart, Beatrice Dawson;
Representative to Board of Ste-
wards Jean Hodgert; manse com-
mittee Barb Ballantyne, Ruth Anne
Osgood; examiners Anne Kernick,
Diane Jeffery; group leaders, U,
Sharon Passmore, Melonie Miller;
C, Joan Morgan, Karen Ethering-
ton;,W, Anne Kernick, Pat Ballan-
tyne. There are 15 women on
standing committees.
Rev. Jock Tolmay was in charge
of the Sunday morning church ser-
vice. He told the children a story
on "Remembrance."
The choir sang "Sacred Memo-
ries" accompanied by organist
Marilyn Vandenbussche.
Rev. Tolmay's sermon was enti-
tled "The Meaning of Readiness".
Coffee hour was held after
church with Margaret Stewart and
Helen Webber as hostesses.
On November 20 a joint meeting
of the Session will be held at 7
p.m. and the Official Board will
meet at 8 p.m. at Elimville United
Church.
On November 21 from .7 to 9
p.m. young people from grades 4
and up will meet at Thames Road

HENSALL - Huron South Dis-
trict Women's Institute held a fall
board meeting on November 5 at
Hensall United church with Presi-
dent Helen MacKenzie presiding
and Grace Pym as secretary.
Roll call was answered by the
eight branches and officers with
"Ideas to raise funds for the Dis-
trict". A quilt will be made. Brief
reports were given by Mary Nick -
las, the Provincial Board Director,
reminding the group to celebrate
the anniversary next year with a
program on February 19 and the
area convention to be held in Ox-
ford North on October 23, 1997.
Mona Alderdice, P.R.O. and Edu-
cational reported the Cardigan
Course had 81 participants and the
Low Fat Microwave Course had 85
attend.
Marion Dougall, Resolutions
Convener, asked that the group get
involved with meetings held on
hospitals and education to keep in -
*formed on the issues and to express
.their viewpoints.
The County Rally report was giv-
en by Hilda Payne. The Curators
report was read by Cheryl MacLe-
od. She also said th,: Slice of Huron
program will be held every two
years now.
The group is to provide crafts,
jams and jellies for the District An-
nual meeting next May 15, 1997, to
be hosted by the Seaforth W.I.
Shirley Cooper and helpers had
inspected the Agriculture Kits and
mentioned they are being stored in
an empty classroom at Walton Pub-
lic School when they are not being
used.

The 100th Year Celebration is to
be held March 31, 1997 at Crediton
at 6:30 p.m. beginning with a pot-
luck dinner and the program of fun,

tume or centennial dress will be the
order of the night.
It was also decided to do any ca-
tering smorgasbord style only and
donation was voted to the church.
