Agriculture
exchange
student tries
dairy. farming
USBORNE TOWNSHIP , On
Friday. 20 -year-old Julie Banks of
Nem, Ztaland completed a seven-
month work exchange at the dairy
farm of Joe and Nancy Vink.
Through the International Ag-
ricultural Exchange Association,
Banks is experiencing her first ex-
change, which includes visiting
friends in Seaforth, Sarnia, London
and possibly Hamilton before she
leaves for England next week to
complete her trip on a mixed farm-
ing operation.
She hopes to work with horses
during the next seven months of her
exchange. The highlight of her visit
in Huron County came when she
rode horses near Dashwood and
took Western riding lessons.
Dairy farming was Banks' third
choice on a list of four choices. Her
challenging agricultural work with
the Vinks included feeding and
milking stock. She has experience
working in a zoo but the Vinks
have provided her first dairy farm-
ing experience.
Banks' IAEA $9,000 round -the -
world trip included a three-week
trip with 40 other exchange stu-
dents to the United States in July.
She also met a New Zealand ex-
change participant in Lucknow who
will be placed near her in England.
With IAEA there is a Denmark
exchange student staying in Sea -
forth and a Ukrainian student in Us -
borne Township. IAEA has existed
for at least 20 years, providing
work experience for single in-
dividuals up to 30 years of age.
Banks said she'll miss the people
she's met on her trip, especially the
four children of the Vink house-
hold.
"I've met a lot of really close
friends," she said, adding, "It's a
good chance to get out and look at
a different country and different
type of farming."

Water supply shut off
during twinning project
CREDITON - The Crediton
backup water supply from the Kirk -
ton wells couldn't keep up with de-
mand after the Lake Huron pipline
was turned off for a twinning pro-
ject during the weekend.
Although pressure was still low,
The Ontario Clean Water Agency
reopened the pipeline by Monday
morning.
The pipeline supplies water to
London and approximately 12 other
area communities. OCWA will
also be closing the line next week-
end to proceed with a further twin-
ning project.
