Artist tour
Exeter artist Shirley Perry, at left, and Marilyn Mate, of Thamesford, display their works at
the second annual Discovery Studio Tour last weekend. Both artists rely on the "delicate
colors of nature" when choosing to paint florets, landscapes and for Mate, a variety of sub-
ject matter. it is the first time the two have participated in the tour that also included An-
nette Goodale of Granton, Elisabeth Tonner-Keats of Lucan and many St. Marys artists in-
cluding Alan Dhingra, Christine Gibbens and Renee Knight.

In 1900, the average life expectancy was 47 years
and one hundred out of every one thousand babies
born didn't lie to age one. Today, on average, peo-
ple live more than 75 years and only ten babies out
of one thousand die before age one. Wtth all the hor-
rors of modem IMng we are faced with: cholesterol,
sugar. caffeine, sedentary life styles etc., we aren't
doing that badly!
One horror that is definitely bad for our health Is smoking. Did you know that to-
bacco companies In the U.S. spent over $3.9 biiton on advertlsing their prod-
ucts In 1990? Because more and more North Americans ere 'seeing the light -
and kicking the addiction, tobacco companies are focusing their ads on Asia
end Eastem Europe where they forecast a 33% increase In sales by 2000.
