Lions donation
The Uons Club from Exeter, Centralia and Huron Park do-
nated $7,000 towards the Stephen Township Arena Expan-
sion Fund. The money was raised through the sale of lotto
tickets at Jordy's Gas Bar. Pictured from left are: Lany Eve -

BRUSSELS - The sales at Brussels Livestock
for the week ending October 11, 1996.

Veal calves: 581 Lambs and Goats: 59
Stockers: 2082
All weights of cattle were selling steady. Veal sold
$1.-$2. lower. Lambs were steady, all classes of stock-
ers were selling steady.
There were 481 steers on offer selling from 87.00 to 92.00 to the high
of 98.25.
Thirty-six steers consigned by Johnston Farms, Bluevale averaging
1304 lbs. sold for an average of 89.92 with sales to 98.25.
Twenty-two steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesborough aver-
aging 1325 lbs. sold for an average of 92.97 with sales to 96.75.
Twenty-two steers consigned by Kada Farms, Bluevale averaging
1323 lbs. sold for an average of 90.26 with sales to 95.75.
Thirty-nine steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan averaging
1351 lbs. sold for an average of 87.70 with sales to 94.25.
Thirty-two steres consigned by Murray Shiell, Wingham averaging
1304 lbs. sold for an average of 89.78 with sales to 93.75.

EXETER - The Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority recognizes
outstanding achievements in con-
servation and environmental pro-
tection with the annual presentation
of the Conservation Awards. Each
year Land Stewardship and Envi-
ronmental Advocacy may be pre-
sented.
• Examples of conservation activi-
ties include improving local water
quality reforestation, conservation
farming, and environmental educa-
tion.
To be eligible for an award indi-
viduals, organizations or compa-
nies must be located in or have
completed conservation work in the
jurisdiction of the Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority. Current
ABCA staff and directors are not
eligible.
Last year Garry Palmateer of
London received an award.
For more than 10 years Garry
Palmateer has been a valued advis-
or to the ABCA staff in all water
quality improvement programs. He
has also been a participant, leader
and supporter of water quality re-
search in the ABCA watershed. He
has first hand knowledge of
ABCA's watershed drains, streams,
•
Garay has brought national as
well as inteniational recognition to
ABCA through successfully pub-
lished papers about innovative and
ground -breaking research undertak-
en in the ABCA watershed. These
studies have included transportion
and survival of bacteria in wa-
tershed drains; impacts of liquid
and solid manure application on
field tiles; and the rapid detection
of E.Coli bacteria in Lake Huron.
Lakeshore municipalities have ben-
efitted from this for the past two
years.
