AMEN Blyth Festival holds unique auction BLYTH - Where can you shop for such diverse bargains as a whale watching trip to New Bruns- wick, handmade quilts, one -of -a - kind pieces of artwork, auto- graphed novels, posters, scripts and CDs, and theatre, spa, fishing and golf packages? All of these items and more will be offered to the highest bidders at the Blyth Festival's Gala Auction Saturday, November 9 at the Blyth Community Centre. The auction, held every second year, is one of the Festival's biggest fundraising events and organizers hope that this year's proceeds will help burn a large chunk of the Festival's mort- gage. A team of volunteers has been busy during the past few months rounding up a variety of unique items from near and afar. Imagine a plane and pilot at your disposal for a one-hour jaunt or a luxurious stay at the historic Grand Hotel on Mackinnac Island. Everything from food products such as locally har- vested maple syrup, a gourmet pickle package and ten pounds of grain -fed veal to handcrafted treas- ures such as a heritage screen door, rocking chair, and quilt stand will he awaiting your bid. There are gift certificates ga- lore for services ranging from hair- cuts, saunas and massages to legal consultations, design work and even a band which can be rented for a dance or party. Auction -goers can also bid on a variety of experi- ences - from cutting one's own Christmas tree and watching a sheep round -up to canoeing and be- ing a newspaper editor for a day. The auction will feature live mu- sic by Cedric Smith from the legen- dary Perth County Conspiracy as well as Kim Souch and Arlene Darnbrdugh from Bayside Blue. The Gala Auction is sponsored by Ideal Supply Co. and CFPL Ra- dio. For tickets or more informa- tion, call the Blyth Festival at (519) 523-9300.
