President Judy Morrison said invitations were sent to all past Kinettes and the original Charter President Marg Knight was in attendance. The service club was chartered on October 9, 1956 under Knight who still resides in Hensall. The Hensall charter was sponsored by the Exeter Kinetf e co r:ettner was the president of the Exeter club at that Over the past -20 . . ub has been involved in many fundraising and commuiuty service projects including the Bean Festival, Fiddlers' Contest, rummage sales, babysitting courses, Ladies' Night, baby car seat rental, Ontario Hospital Christmas Party and playground restoration. The Hensall Kinette donate money to many local worthwhile projects such as community minor sports, Hensall 'Week of the Child' celebration and the area ice resurfacer. One of the highlights of the charter's history occurred last year when the group raised the most money of any group for Cystic Fibrosis reseach through local fundraising. The Kinette and Kinsmen associations have taken on CF research as their "pet projects" and the Hensall Kinsment were instrumental in initially establishing support for this disease as a national project. Although a cure for CF is predicted in roughly five to 10 years, continued funding and public awareness are important to meeting this goal. The Kinette cooperate with the Kinsmen during Moonwalk, walk-a-thons to raise funding for CF and CF Serivce Day at local gas stations. Morrison said the club is currently in a rebuilding year although it is strong with 10 regular members and one active life member. Much has changed since she originally joined the group in 1973 when members were required to be married to active members of the Kinsmen. Now the Kinette membership is separate although the two group share a "family connection" through joint meetings and social events. "Today we have an open membership, welcoming new members at any time to our rands. There need not be a spousal connection with Kin, only a desire to enjoy fellowship and friendship with a concern for those around us who need our assistance, " said Morrison. The Hensall Kinsmen celebrated its 40th anniversary three years ago. The organization was started 76 years ago in Hamilton by Hal Rogers. The Hensall Klnette celebrated its 40th anniversary Saturday with a dinner and dance.
