the unusually wet weather, the soy-
beans look quite good. Anyone in-
terested in looking at the plots will
find them located at the corner of
Highway 83 and Usborne conces-
sion 2 and 3 and just south of Win-
chelsea on County Road 11.

On Wednesday, September 18, a Fun Night was held at McDo-
nald's. All of the students at South Huron were given a fun card and
were allowed to use this card between 4 and 8 p.m. Total sales from
the cards were $1,567.98. McDonald's donated 15 per cent of these
sales which was $235.20 to our school. With the money, the school
to replace the old tables in the cafeteria with new ones and also
to gin a project that will update and beautify our school. Thank you
to all the staff, parents, and students who came out to support our
school. Thank you especially to McDonald's for generously support-
ing our school. There will be more "Fun Nights" in the future so
watch this column for more details.
Hepatitis B vaccinations are coming up. Hepatitis B is a virus that
can permanently damage your liver. le can be infected with Hep
B and not even be sick. That means you can infect someone else with-
out even knowing it. You can get Hep B through blood and other body
fluids of an infected person. There is no cure for Hep B but there is a
safe, effective vaccine.
The province of Ontario is expanding its Hepatitis B vaccination
for one year only. All secondary students who have not already had
the vaccination are eligible to receive it free of charge. The vaccina-
tion is a series of three shots, the first in October, the second in No-
vember. and,the third in April. After this year, there will be a $10 fee
for a Hep B vaccination, so if you want to save money, you should get
it done this year. If you have any questions, you can contact the Huron
County Health Unit at 1-800-265-5184 and ask for the "Communica-
ble Disease Team."
Commencement was held on Friday night and it went over very
well. Congratulations to all the graduates and to those who won
awards. Adam Jean is amazing.
Until next week...Bill Kline

Events at Keenager's Korner
MESA CRAIG - In spite of a
slow start, the weather cooperated
beautifully in most instances for
plans of the Keenagers at the
Craigwiel Day Centre this sum-
mer. Picnics and outings are al-
ways a popular activity so they
were appreciative of the nice
days. The staff usually open their
homes and grounds for picnic out-
ings, and a highlight is a day at
Evelyn McNaughton's home. She
entertains Craigweil seniors at her
beautiful farm each summer.
The seniors enjoyed a day at
Springbank Park this summer
also.
They had an interesting taste ex-
perience this summer. They talked
about cheese and cheese making,
and tasted quite a few varieties.
Visitors to Craigweil this sum-
mer provided some real treats too.
Sharon Devree as pianist, came
one day with David Malden, an
accomplished violinist, his wife
Elda with her lovely voice and
Dan McCallum and Josh Geddes,
two of David's violin students. It
was a day of pure enjoyment for
anyone who loves good music.
The seniors asked for a repeat,
so Sharon and David, and some of
Sharon's pupils, Courtney Fox
and Stephanie McClarty came and
entertained with a first class pro-
gram of both instrumental and vo-
cal musk;.
A week in August was designat-
ed Arts and Crafts Week. The
seniors brought some their own to
show each other, then visited
Marilyn Barbe in her new facility
to watch her make pottery.
Shirley Dorman brought some
of her creations and demonstrated
decorating flower pots. Betty Su-
therland displayed her china
painting. Sheila Manning showed
her stained glass craft, ,and Col-
leen Pavlech and Edyth Langford
came with their spinning wheels
and demonstrated the old art of
taking wool from the sheep to gar-
ment.
Wilma Kirmse and Rebecca
Bender spent a day showing how
to make a "Magic Tile" quilt.
Isn't it interesting how some lit-
tle insignificant items in your pos-
session take on real significance
because of the association they
have with a special person or ex-
perience?
The seniors had a "Show and
Tell" time, bringing some of those
items and telling the story behind
them.
When time for school rolled
around once more, the seniors
were treated to some poems from
old readers.
The Keenagers sent "Thank -u -
Grams" to people who had
brought good to their lives.
They dedicated one day to talk-
ing about old-time health reme-
dies like Lily Drops. if you have
any recipes for such mixtures, you
can send them to Craigweil for
one of their discussions.
Janice Karr and her pianists,
Ann Stewart and Jean Lee deserve
a "Thank -u -Gram" for their
monthly visits to lead in a hymn
sing.
Evelyn McNaughton has begun
to share her most recent trips with
the Keenagers. They've seen her
slides of the Channel Islands and
look forward to her 'Big Birthday
Trip' to West England. Since she
tried to give her family the slip to
avoid a celebration, the seniors
were glad to hear the fax ma-
chines and her tour company
made sure the day was duly rec-
ognized. Her family surprised her
later anyway.
The staff has been taking turns
at holidays through the summer,
but everyone is back and read)
with a full program of interesting
activities.
Most of the local doctors have a
calendar of the activities, but if
you don't frequent those offices, a
call to the Day Centre will ac-
quaint you with the agenda before
it happens.
