Centennials poised
to make playoffs
EXETER - Poor weekend weather forced the Exeter Centennials
to play their last two league games midweek.
As a result, six players had w muss the games, as they were away
at university. The holes in the line-up were
filled with the help of had Gilfillan,
Luke Sims and Dave Farquhar from the
Under -19 boys team. On Wednesday, the
visiting Nairn Cardinals gave the Cen-
tennials more than they bargained for with
only 10 men.
Nick Szabo opened the scoring early with a rocket to the corner.
Luke Sims followed with a great strike to the near top comer. Nairn
my aged to chip one in to end the first half 2-I.
l' hen the hosts made it 3-1 on Ruban Chelladurai's penalty kick,
everything seemed well in hand. However, a collective team "relax"
resulted in the Nairn strikers penetrating and belting home two
quick goals to tie it as darkness was falling.
Shawn Rotteau did everything to find the net but it wasn't to be.
Finally, Ruud Veldhuizen crossed into the box, where Anders Mill-
ner headed it home for the 4-3 run.
On Monday night the Centennials visited the German Canadians
at Cove Rd. in London for a pivotal game against a team just two
points ahead of them.
Farquhar opened the scoring under the lights with a well-placed
shot just inside the near post. Millner made it 2-0 when he pounced
on a loose ball in the crease.
However, a penalty shot awarded to the hosts broke the shutout
and the first half ended at 2-1. A well -hit free kick early in the sec-
ond half tied the score and things looked grim for the Centennials.
However, Dan Martens took a great feed from Szabo and belted it
low and into the corner for the 3-2 lead. Chad Gilfillan completed
the scoring when he, too, found the near corner and the visitors took
the game 4-2.
A playoff spot depends on this weekend when the Centennials
must not only beat Lion Kings at home at 4 p.m. Sunday, but they
need a Marconi or Forest United Toss as well.

Take the nimbleness of a sub -compact, the security of a 4x4,
the quality of a Toyota and you've got a whole new class of
car...er..truck...er.. 4x4. You've got RAV4, for Recreational
Active Vehicle 4WD. (Okay, If you have a
compulsion to classify these things, it's a -sub-
compact sport utility vehicle.") With the full-time 4
wheel drive, 4 -door model you get that great 4x4
feeling and yes, lots of practical stuff like
legroom, cargo space and a big rear door. Meanwhile, the 2 -
door version comes with the fantastic roadability of front
wheel drive (the only subcompact sport utility to have It) plus
the wide open spaces of not one, but two available sunroofs.
Powered by a twin overhead cam
2.0 Titre engine, RAV4 Is quick and
responsive and an out and out
blast to drive. Gas
mileage, needless to say,
is great. RAV4 answers the 'Why should I drive what
everyone else drives?" question like nothing ever
has before. Now, how much? It's good news. In
fact, we have a feeling you're going to drop this paper in your
hurry to come have a look. Around $20,000 for the 2 -door, a
little more for the 4 -door. See? We knew you'd be surpr
