Welcome Week is now over
the grade nines can now go to
school in comfort and have
nothing to worry about. The
whole week was fun and en-
joyable for all.
On Monday, the grade nines
got down and dirty in front of
the rest of the school. On Tues-
day, they were bought as "ap-
prentices " by Grade 12 stu-
dents who were willing to pay
high prices for their young
friends. The grade nines did
what their owners asked them
to do on Tuesday afternoon
and all day Wednesday. The
Grade 9 dance on Thursday
night went over very well.
Everyone cooperated extreme-
ly well. Thank you to all the
teachers, prefects, and also the
janitors for cleaning up the
gymnasium floor which got a
little messy in some spots. A
special thank you to all the stu-
dents for coming-out and mak-
ing the dance a great success.

CWL continues charitable work
GRAND BEND - The Catholic
Women's League of Immaculate
Heart of Mary Parish met on Sep-
tember 3 at the parish hall. Presi-
dent Gera Peters chaired the busi-
ness. The two bake sales and quilt
raffle raised almost $2,000 for the
council's charitable work. Peters
thanked all the members who con-
tributed their time and talents in
baking, fresh vegetables, ticket
sales, and those who created the
quilt and afghan.
Letters were read from Diocesan
President Muriel Murphy and from
the Diocesan Resolutions Chair.
Theresa Larkin, who encouraged
all councils to consider the need
and importance of presenting reso-
lutions. The working title needs to
be sent in by November and com-
pleted in February 1997, so it can
be worked through the Diocesan
committee, ready for the annual
convention at the end of April.
Save -a -Family Plan from India
sent a request for a donation to the
housing fund for widows in India.
They hope to raise $800,000 which
would house 1000 widows and
their children at the cost of $800
per unit. Four hundred such houses
have been completed thus far.
Christian Family Life Convener
Lia Vandenberk thanked everyone
for their contributions of containers
like bags, pill bottles, jars, hangers,
plus bedding, towels, food staples,
and household goods, donated by
parishioners to the Canadian Food
for Children Fund. Lia and her hus-
band Martin, loaded up their truck
and delivered everything to a drop-
off point in Stratford. All these
items are sorted and packaged, then
shipped out of Toronto to children
and their families in third world
countries. The contact person for
this project is Irene Coghill in Strat-
ford, 519-273-0571.
CWL president Gera Peters
thanked the organizer of the quilt
raffle, Toni Vandenberk, who re-
ported that she had already pur-
chased material for the 1997 quilt.
The quitters want to start work on
the new quilt in November. The
parish picnic didn't have a large
turnout, but everyone who came en-
joyed themselves.
November 25 will be the 40th an-
niversary of the Grand Bend Coun-
cil. Plans are being made for a spe-
cial Mass, followed by a catered

Vandenberk and Grada Vlemmix

London Diocesan executive mem-
bers in the area, and former CWL
members of this council. A news-
letter will be sent out with informa-
tion, including a list of nominees
for the election of officers at the
