Wednesday. Schilbe scored 67 with five under par in the
annual event that attracted 130 golfers.
Zurich Lions Club comes to an end
The group has been
a part of the communi-
ty for 50 years.

ZURICH - After SO years of
faithful service the Zurich Lions
Club has come to an end due to a
lack of members' interest.

Charlie and Tammy Ducharme
(nee Thiel) were married at St. Pe-
ter's Church, St. Joseph on August
31 with the dinner and reception
held in Hensall. The couple are liv-
ing at RR 02 Zurich.
Jared and Kathy Siebert (nee
Maclaren) were married in Kitch-
ener on August 30. The groom is
the son of Dave and Ruth Sieben,
Zurich and the couple will be living
in Kitchener.
Gord and Jeanne Hay spent most
of last week at their trailer home at
Family Paradise Campgrounds.
Barb and Pat O'Connor of Lake
Bluff; Chicago spent the past two
weeks visiting with her mother
Gerry Kane.
Richard and Kathy Breakey of
Edmonton are visiting with his
mother, Dorothy Breakey in Zurich
and Kathy's mother in London.
Laurene Corriveau returned home
recently after spending five weeks
visiting with her son Peter Corri-
veau and grandson Kyle in Califor-
nia and a sister Anne Primrose in
Millbrace. California.

Flowers displayed at festival
KIRKTON - The Kirkton Horticultural Society held
their Festival of Flowers meeting at the KW Communi-
ty Centre on August 20 at 7:30 p.m. A wonderful dis-
play of flowers and vegetables were viewed prior to
the program. President Gretchen Hazelwood, opened
the meeting. Jean Ratcliffe introduced the speaker,
Anna Peterson, who demonstrated the method of mak-
ing dried arrangements. These beautiful arrangements
were given as door prizes to several lucky people.
She was thanked by Jo -Anne Meta. Jo -Anne also ex-
plained the method of pressing flowers and exhibited
some examples she had completed. There was an exhi-
bition type table setting on display. Peterson gave
many tips for those who are interested in showing a
display for the Christmas meeting.
Marilyn Robinson reported on the bus trips. October
10 to Windsor Casino and December 4 to view the
Simcoe lights.
Kay Filson was the judge and the results of the
Flower Show are as follows: Best rose ;n show - Jean
Ratcliffe, best gladioli - Olga Hern, most points in jun-
iors A - Michael Meta, 2nd - Gregory Meta, 3rd - Ni-
cole Meta, Jr. C. most points - Andrea French, Kirkton
Horticultural Special Award for highest score - Evelyn
Harrigan, 2nd - Gertrude Willis, 3rd - Barbara French.

The Hay Days Car Poker Rally
on Sunday was a lot of fun for
thpse taking part, leaving from the
Hensall arena. It was followed with
a corn feast and social get-together.
Kristin Beer, Orleans spent a few
days in Zurich last week visiting
with her grandparents Mozart and
Marie Gelinas Sr and her grand-
mother Lucille Beer in Hensall.
Her aunt Michele Gelinas from
B.C. has also been visiting in Zu-
rich. She returned to Ottawa with
Kristin to visit twin sister Melissa
and Neil Francis.
Harold and Doreen Dietrich cele-
brated their 40th wedding anniver-
sary on September 1. All of their
children attended Mass at St. Boni-
face Church, followed by a family
get-together and Sunday Brunch at
Hessenland.
A buck and Doe was held for Ed
Meidinger and Deb Jeffrey at the
Zurich Arena on August 30.
Ed is the son of Leo and Cecile
Meidinger and Debbie is the
daughter of Peter and Evelyn Jef-
frey, all of the Zurich area. The
couple are planning to be married
in October.

Ina Neeb has moved into the Ma-
ple Woods Apartments. Elda Wag-
rner is now a resident of Blue Water
'Rest Home. Elroy Desjardine has
'moved into the Spruce Villa Apart-
ments from Exeter.

Senior games
Elaine Weldon, Mary Jacobe, Zu-
rich, Kay Elder, Hensall and Mary
and Bob Fickling, Bayfield were
among those who took part in the
five -pin bowling competition in
Richmond Hill as part of the Acti-
fest '96 Ontario Senior Games last
Monday to Wednesday.
Skating registration
Figure skating registration is
scheduled for September 7 from 10
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. upstairs at the
Zurich Arena and September 10
from 7 to 9 p.m.
Golden Agers
The Golden Agers will be hold-
ing their first meeting on Septem-
ber 9, beginning with a potluck
supper, 5:30 p.m. at the Township
Hall.
Ladies bowling
The Ladies Bowling League will
be starting on Monday, September
9 at the Town and Country Lanes,
Zurich. This year's executive team
is "The High Five."
Fair Board
The Zurich Fair Board will meet
on September 9 at the home of Jer-
ry and Diane Thiel at 8 p.m. Every-
one is welcome.
Costume party
The next Hay Days event is a
family Hallowe'en costume skating
party on October 26 at the Zurich
arena.

The winner of the C.W.L. quilt
draw at the bean festival was Tra-
cey Watson of Exeter.
The winners of the K. of C.
draws at the bean festival booth
were: Rick Smith, $400; Herb
Broom, a chest; Pete Wilds, a wag-
on.
