Letters to the editor
Dear Editor:
Consider this scenario. You are a retiring farmer yet you
want to stay on the farm and help your children get a good
start in the business. Should you attempt to sever a retire-
ment lot off the farm? Provincial statistics show that retire-
ment Tots change ownership within an average of three
years after the consent to sever is granted. What type of
conflicts might your children face with future property
owners and their farming practices after you move on?
What is the possibility that your children will be able to
carry on with the business you have worked a life time to
build and maybe your parents before you?
These thoughts are futuristic but this is the type of think-
ing that is needed to chart the future for the next twenty
years. Twenty years is how long the previous Huron
Workshops scheduled
County Plan survived. Retirement severances is just one
of the many issues that affect land use planning and the
way we farm in Huron County. Planning is a mystery to
some folks while others perceive it as an obstacle to their
individual wishes. The County Plan sets the overall goals
and philosophy of planning for the County. Each town-
ship then adjusts their policies to fit their situation while
keeping within the overall goals of the County Plan.
Community participation in the development of planning
and community development policies is important at both
the County and the Township level.
An opportunity for you to participate in charting the fu-
ture of Huron County and more specifically the policies
that affect agriculture is available to you with a series of
three workshops. You may attend one or more of these

Q. Please explain the reasons for
the different ingredients in cough
and cold preparations
A. There are basically four
different types of ingredients
in cough and cold
formulations. They are the
decongestants, antihistamines,
expectorants and cough
suppressants. These
Ingredients all have specific

Q. How should 1 paint an
already painted surface such as a
call or trim to make sure that the
paint will not peel off?
A. Proper surface preparation
is the most important thing
before painting. The surface
should be scraped and sanded
and then washed with T.S.P.
and rinsed. Some people may
suggest that is all that is
needed to be done prior to
recoating. 1 would strongly
suggest the surface be pruned
with a product such as our Builder Pride Acrylic
Primer Undercoater.

SPRING IS FOAL TIME!

SOUND A[)VICE
Q. rue tltntkig of prtt i g a house
theatre system hi my Siong roolw. Is
the stow and egwirasent 1 reed
different than any other home?
A Every home has different acoustic
characteristics, requiring an
individualized setup of the proper
speakers, amplifier and equalizer for
the maximum potential for realistic
theatre sound. Equally important
however, is the p t of the
speakers in their optimum location.
Speakers placed Improperly can cut
a system's sound potential in half, or
if they are merely not level balanced,
and equalized property for the room's acoustics. The proper
size of television is dictated by the size of the room, and
distance of the viewer from the set. For an in-home
consultation call or drop by the store to see the newest
evolution in Home Theatre, Dolby Digital Ac -3 surround.

AIR
Q.1 have a problem with food and
pet odors in my home. Which
system is better, an air filter
system or the Alpine air purifier?
A. Definitely the Alpine air
purifier. the negative ions and
ozone attacks all odor and
particles to help clean them out of
the air in your home, leaving your
air as fresh as a spring day. Air
filters only collect a small
percentage of particles and no
odors. Also bacteria and mold
particles in air filters grow more
bacteria and end up ung your
air sometimes woraebytdeasing
It over and over Infq your home. It
is estimated that 9011, of sniaU particles in the air never reach
the furnace anyway. Because they are too small to be moved -
other small particles go right through the filters.

Q. If rent a roto tiller ona

A.Rental rates are based on
time out and time in.
Certain pieces of
equipment that are
classified out of season are
sometimes promoted by
reduced rental rates. So
justify reduced rental rates,
we have to justify the types
of usage.
In the past, we have promoted reduced

GRAND BEND - The Grand
Bend OPP detachment reported La-
bour Day Weekend was a quiet
one in the area. The weather was
good and the vast majority of peo-
ple who travelled to Grand Bend
enjoyed and behaved themselves.
As of noon on September 2, a to-
tal of 110 charges were laid during
the long weekend. The majority of
these related to the Liquor Licence
Act and the remaining 24 charges
were laid under the Highway Traf-
fic Act.
Officers have been on ATV, bi-
cycle, foot and vehicle patrols in
addition to marine units in the wa-

FINANCIAL CONSULTANT

through various sources
inclug Independent
Financial Consultants. The
best known method is a
Registered Education Savings
Plan. These provide the
contributor with a go ,d tax
deduction. However, .are
must be given in Choc ung the
best one; what is the rote of
retum on this investment, can
the beneficiary be changed,
what are the fees and
restrictions on institutions that qualify? Most people
do not realize that these funds are retained by the
RESP if no beneficiary uses these funds for their
education at a qualifying educational institution. I'll
discuss another method in my next article.

FUNERAL SERVICE
Q. Do you think that there will
be less visitation at funerals in
the future?
A. Funeral service in the year
2000 is about getting in touch
with,the attitudes and values .. d
of people. itis more and more d <
about the celebration of long
life, and about the helping of
people at the end of life. It is
about honor, dignity, love,
respect, memories, ceremony and memorialization.
Therefore, I believe that visitation at the funeral will
become more and more important in future years.

CHIROPRACTOR
Q. Where do chiropractors
study?
A. There are two
chiropractic education
fadlities in Canada; one is
the Canadian Memorial
Chiropractic College
(CMCC) in Toronto and
the other is the Universite
du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres
(UQTR) in Trois-Rivieres,
Quebec. In Canada, one
chiropractic program is government funded
(Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres) and the
other is a non-profit educational foundation
