Rest Home seniors go shopping
ZURICH - On August 12 the res-
idents of Blue Water Rest Home
enjoyed a Walt Disney movie enti-
tled "Pollyanna" in the auditorium.
At noon, tenants Verde Beechler,
Helen and Lloyd Otterbein, Meda
O'Brien, Anna Erb, Ila O'Rourke
and Laura Gascho of Maplewoods
Apartments enjoyed a lovely dinner
in the auditorium served by volun-
teer Auxiliary member Mary
Gingerich.
On August 13 it was off to Wal -
mart in Goderich to 'shop until you
drop'. Residents Esther Makins,
Bob Carson, Kurt Gebel, Mabel
Kyle, Rose Merner, Edna Johnston
and Clara Hamilton joined volun-
teer driver Jim Purvis and volun-
teers Margaret Suplat and Donna
Merner for a day out. Cathy Shantz,
Adjuvant supervised the outing.
On August 19 residents were off
to the cottage of Cathy Shantz at
Port Franks. They enjoyed their
supper in the fresh air, blowing
from the still cool waters of Lake
Huron.
On August 22 members of St.
Andrews United Church, Bayfield
visited the Home to entertain the
residents and to celebrate the Au-
gust birthdays. Mabel Kyle, Ade-
line Denomy, Gerald Stone, Bea-
trice Eagleson, Clarence Gascho,
Esme Bigler, Margaret Snell, Belva
Willis and Bob Carson received
gifts from the Auxiliary, presented
by Muriel Williams. John Siertse-
ma introduced the evening enter-
tainment which consisted of his
wife Kathleen as organist who ac-
companied him in singing 'Amaz-
ing Grace' and the six member jun-
ior choir of the Bayfield Church's
Summer Bible School. Kelsey
Johnston and Krista Penhale sang a
duet, Ted Dunn sang a solo and did
a reading and Gord Kurtz read a
letter.
On August 23 the residents en-
joyed the movie "Spring and Sum-
mer Song Birds".
Saturday, Zurich was abuzz with
many visitors for the Annual Bean
Festival. The weather was great for
the festival and Clara Caldwell of
Clinton was the the lucky winner of
the Auxiliary star quilt.
On Sunday the auditorium was
full of well wishers as Clarence
Gascho celebrated his 80th birthday
with an open house. Family and
friends from near and far came to
wish him the very best. Residents
and staff joined in to help Clarence
and his family celebrate the special
day.
Condolences to the family and
friends of the late Constance (Con-
nie) Lewis who passed away at
South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on
August 22, 1996. Connie spent
only one month at Blue Water, but
was a tenant of Maplewoods Apart-
ments for many years and was a
well known member of the Zurich
community.
Welcome back to Clarence Far-
well, a tenant at Maplewoods
Apartments who has spent a few
days checking out the hospital
scene.
Welcome to Elda Verda Eliza-
beth Wagner of Zurich to Blue Wa-
ter Rest Home.
