Sun shines on annual Thousands of people attended the weekend festivities. By Carmel Sweeney Zurich correspondent ZURICH - The 31st annual Zu- rich Bean Festival was another hig success. There was lots of good food, great entertainment, street market, antique cars. plus thousands of peo- ple in the village. The beautiful sunny weather made for a perfect day. Bean Festival President Jody Du- rand and many hard-working vol- unteers spent a lot of hours this past week to make this event possible. WI The Women's institute will meet on September 3 at 7:(X) p.m. at the Hay Township Hall. Auxiliary An Auxiliary meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Blue Wager Rest Hosie on September 3 beginning with a musical program at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to both of these open meetings. Library news Approximately 60 children par- ticipated in the Summer Reading Program at the Library. They en- joyed crafts, reading stories and Afternoon garden party enjoyed HENSALL - it was a busy weck at Queensway Nursing Home with the regular Fun and Fitness on Monday morning. In thc afternoon several residents gathered to do fur- ther sanding and staining on their woodworking projects. Rev. Verhoog of Exeter led the worship service Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday, Queensway resi- dents hosted the annual Horticultu- ral Flower Show. Residents thor- oughly enjoyed having so many people from the community in and out through the day and the activity room was filled with thc scent of the flowers on display. The annual garden party at Bill Gibson's home took place in the af- ternoon and everyone had a won- derful time strolling the grounds, admiring the arbor, gazebo, fish pond, flowers and shrubs. Bill's fa- mous carrot cake and ice cream, along with coffee and tea were served. Geri Fashions of London were at Queensway Thursday evening to present a fashion show of the latest fall colors and styles. They will be at Queensway in November with their mobile store. There were door prizes with Jennifer Young winning a beautiful lady bug gold pendant watch. Bill Gibson and Helen Fer- ringno each won a $25.00 gift cer- tificate. Queensway residents had a good day at the Zurich Bean Festival. Dods /Tiffin of London was the winner of a reclining lawnchair and a ;Queensway t -shirt in the free draw. Combs events Au st 29 at 7 p.m. there will be a birthday patty with Biu Clark and Band entertaining. An Alzheitner Information Night is planted at Queensway on Sep- tember 10 at 7 p.m. playing games centred around a "Go for the Gold" Olympic theme, presented by two students. Registrations for Story Hour are now being taken at the Zurich Li- brary. The program is for small children every second Thursday and Friday afternoons. Painting seminar The Tole Booth on Main Street is a very busy place this past week as owner Heather Redick is hosting live -day international seminar course for 23 women. riscilla Hauser is instructing in the art of toleing and decorative painting. Personals Tracy and Wayne Lockhart and their children from Sherwood Park, Alberta are in the area visiting with her mother Helene Ducharme and relatives. They attended the wed- ding of her brother Rob and Christa Ducharme on August 17. They are also visiting with Wayne's rela- tives in Collingwoo d. The Main Street of Zurich is very colorful with flower boxes and the addition of two remodeled build- ings. J&L Variety Store has also been painted. Sympathy is extended to the fam- ily and relatives of the late Connie Lewis who passed away August 22. Sympathy also goes to the family of a former Zurich resident Ltyda Gandier, Hensall Nursing Hosie, who passed away on August 19. Several Sweeney relatives attend- ed the funeral of a relative Kerry bean fest Sweeney in London on August 23. She is the daughter of Jim and Car- ol Sweeney. Many friends and relatives helped Claire and Margaret Deichert celebrate their 40th wed- ding anniversary at their home on August 25 at an open house. Quimby and Isobel Hess cele- brated their 50th wedding anniver- sary August 19. Relatives from To- ronto and Ladner, B.C. helped them celebrate. Michele Gelinas of Vancouver is spending a three-week vacation in Zurich with her parents Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. and visiting fam- ily members in the area. Happy 80th birthday wishes go out to Clarence Gascho. An open house was held in his honor at the Rest Hosie on Sunday afternoon. George and Rosalie Harvey of Redford, Michigan are enjoying a couple weeks at their cottage. Brandon Johnston, son of Mark and Joanne, was baptized on.Sun- day, August 25 at St. George's An- glican Church, Goderich. GRANTON - Granton members attended the Kirkton Horticulture Society's Festival of Flowers at the Communijy Centre on Tuesday evening, August 20. Anna Peterson was the speaker on 'designing with the wonders of nature' and also demonstrated dried flower arrange- ments. Visitors on the weekend with Elizabeth Parkinson and son Rob - en were cousins Robert and Barba- ra Turnbull of Largo, Florida. Alnia Nicholson, Florence McRobert, Nora Wissel and Elsie Dann were supper guests with Flor- ence Bryan after they all attended the Huron Country Playhouse at Grand Bend to see the play 'Me and nay girl' on Friday, August 24. Pastor Nonnalie Voakes officiat- ed at the Scott Garrett wedding in the Granton United Church on Sat- urday, a reception and dinner (ca- tered by Granton UCW) totlowed at the Lucan Community Centre. At the Granton United Church on Sunday, August 25. Pastor Norma - lie Voakes entitled her sermon 'Who do you say that 1 .un' based on the lessons from Faoxlus 1. Ro- mans 12 and Matthew 16. At St. Paul's Anglican Church, Kirkton on Sunday the Rev. Glen- da Meakin's message was about knowing who Jesus Christ really is and recognizing His love and mer- cy.
