Capsule Comments
with Ernie Miatello
We are encouraged to eat five to nine servings
of fruit or vegetables daily (depending on our
total food consumption). What is a serving? Ex-
amples Include one medium carrot, 1/2 cup of
chopped, cooked or canned fruits or vegeta-
bles, 3/4 cup of juice or one medium size
whole fruit.
Is waist -size a measure or risk for weight -related health problems? Ac-
cording to a Scottish study it is. For women, a waist measurement
above 34.5 inches signified a serious risk. For men, it was 40 inches
or more.
Diabetics' feet are powerful indicators of nerve damage done by the
disease. When your doctor touches certain areas of your feet and toes
and you feel it, that's good. if you don't feel anything, it means there
has been nerve damage and you must pay very strict attention to the
condition of your feet. It's good advice for all diabetics to look after
their feet well.
Most common drug classes dispensed by pharmacists in 1995? Well,
12.5% of all drugs prescribed were for cardiovascular problems. The
second highest group at 12.3% were anti-infectives. Number three in
the list (at 9.9%) is the psychotherapeutic drugs including antidepress-
ants (up 7% from 1994).
