The idea of a community musical was launched by Exeter resident Deb Homuth, who has directed many children's shows and is the mother of five boys as well as vice principal of Goderich District Col- legiate Institute. In 1989 Homuth organized Showcase '89, a high school and community project that auditioned 100 children. "It's always been a love of mine," she said. "Live theatre is such a joyful experience." She has also employed the talent of a former student, Sara Mason, who is now studying drama and ed- ucation at Windsor University. Mason will co -direct the production and has helped Homuth, who wrote the script and is choreo- gaphing dance numbers, add stage and set directions as well as special Meeting Notice BOSANQUET EXETER - GRAND BEND STEPHEN - USBORNE AMALGAMATION COMMITTEE The Council representatives of the above municipalities are meeting on an ongoing basis to determine the feasibility of restructuring the municipalities into a single municipal corporation. These meetings are open to the public. Any group or individual who would like to make a presentation to the committee, should contact Larry Brown Committee Coordinator at 234-6331. The next Amalgamation Committee meeting is: Wednesday, Aug. 28 •.7:30 p.m. at Exeter Council Chambers Public participation Is welcomed effects. Homuth chose the Lion King be- cause children are familiar with the story and the music is very "dance- able." She hopes to have a large cast of approximately 75 in an ef- fort to accomodate many par- ticipants with a variety of talents. Disney has already been contacted about putting on a live production of the Lion King and Homuth doesn't anticipate any problems al- though some of the details are still being worked out. "This is very different than the Exeter area's offered before," she said. South Huron District High Sch000l music teacher Rob Ro- billiard has been enlisted to find orchestra parts for the Lion King music and singer Susan Graham will also be invoved in co- ordinating the music. "It's going to be a hunt," said Ho- muth regarding the search for mu- sic. "The computer's been a usefull tool on this project." Although the details of where the community musical will be per- formed have yet to be deterinined, auditions will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the South Huron Recreation Cen- tre. The call is for children six to 14 years -old interested in acting, singing or dancing. There will also be an opportunity for those inter- ested in creating sets or running lights. Adult volunteers are needed for ticket sales, publicity, costumes and make-up. Homuth added high school OA year drama student may be interested in helping with the production. South Huron has a long tradition of a great theatre pro- gram and although this community production will be large-scale, it does not seek to compete with oth- er local performances. Although she calls the production "very amateur," rehearsals will be held once a week starting in the fall and will increase closer to the pro- duction date.
