The Meadow Mist green Crown Victoria was the

KIPPEN - After years of pains-
taking restoration, Walter
has finally received
recognition for re-
creating a nearly per-
fect 1956 Ford Fairlane
Crown Victoria.
He placed first in the
judge class as well as
in public opinion at the
Crown Victoria As-
sociation Annual Con-
vention held recently in Dearborn,
Michigan. The show features Fords
built between 1954 and '56.
"There was nothing on that car
that didn't need to be re -done, "
said Denys who explained ex-
plained he has tried to load the car
up with every possible option avail-
able in 1956 including tinted glass,
chrome, air conditioning, power
Denys
windows and even an exclusively
Canadian option, a nail guard under
the door handle.
In the year the car was built, only
147 were painted all Meadow Mist
green. Many of the judg-
es commented it was the
first of its kind they had
seen in show. Judges
check for correctness as
well as workmanship,
fit, finish and cleanliness
during their inspection.
Denys has searched
throughout North Amer-
ica to find the parts he required to
rebuild the Fairlane. Only 603 were
ever built and this makes finding
pieces to refurbish the car difficult
and expensive.
"The car has to be as it was when
k rolled off the assembly line," he
explained.
Despite the hours of work it took
him to bring the Fairlane back to
"It almost
took over
my life for
awhile."

its original glory, Denys said plac-
ing first at the convention made it
all worthwhile. He has been re-
building the car since he purchased
it in 1989.
"It almost took over my life for
awhile," he said, adding he was
"proud as a peacock" while the car
was being judged.
Although the Crown Victoria is
in the best condition it is ever like-
ly to be in, he hasn't decided if he
will part with the vintage auto-
mobile. His wife encourages him
to drive the car and enjoy it after
all the work he's put into the res-
toration, but he also feels he has to
be practical.
He has several cars he works on
periodically but it's the Fairlane he
will take to Ford Shows. After
placing first at the convention, he's
earned bragging rights and intends
to use them.
