The game was an important one for the Fury which needs to put some wins together in the hopes of making the playoffs in the east divi- sion. The Fury came out strong on Sat- urday and jumped to a 1-0 leadon a goal by Chuck Walker. Embro tied the game when a harmless shot de- flected off a Fury defender leaving goaltender Craig Winbow with no chance to make the save. Mark Lynn was awarded a penalty shot after receiving a forearm in the face from the Embro keeper and Lynn made no mistake picking the top corner for a 2-1 Fury Lead at the 3 'sem \i i half. The home team scored two quick goals -in the second half to take the lead and force the Fury to try for a comeback victory. It looked as though Pete McAl- lister would tie the game when he was awarded a penalty shot but the Embro goalkeeper came up with a diving save to preserve their lead. "This was a tough loss for us," said Fury player Jason McFalls. "We have to beat the teams below us in the standings to have any hopes of making the playoffs and this loss hurts our chances." Exeter had everyone pressing for the equalizer but was unable to get the goal they needed. Exeter hosts Morningstar on Sunday at 4 p.m. in their next game. Johnson throws for fifth place at nationals KITCHENER - Randy Johnson a graduate of South Huron District High School competed in the Ca- nadian Senior National Track and Field Meet held in Kitchener over the weekend placing fifth in the jav- elin competition with his longest throw measuring 60 m. Johnson, who won a gold medal at the Provincial Track and Field Meet last year, said he wasn't hap- py with his results and believes he may be burned out from an intense training schedule that has included 16 meets over the season. He is also still recovering from an earlier groin injury which prevented him from attending the Olympic trials three weeks before the start of the summer games in Atlanta. However, the top six throwers were eligible to make the Canadian team and Johnson was one of the two chosen to represent Canada on a tour of Finland and Norway later this month. Johnson said javelin throwing is very popular among Scandinavian countries and he's looking forward to learning from the European ath- letes and coaches. He will compete in three meets for the Canadian Na- tional Team. "I'm really looking forward to my first taste of international competi- tion," he said. Johnson is currently entering his third year at South East Missouri State University where he is study- ing physical education where he competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
