Hensall correspondent
HENSALL - At Hensall United
Church, Rev. Peebles was the guest
minister. A hymn sing was en-
joyed following the welcome. A si-
lent prayer and the responsive read-
ing preceded the reading from
Matthew 25: 34-41 and 46. Rev.
Peebles' message was "It was Not
Easy". The o Bring was taken fol-
lowed by Doxology and
Prayer. A hymn and benediction
closed the service. Elaine Corbett
and Hilda Payne were ushers. Re-
freshments were served after the
service.
Glad Days were a success once
again. The support of the people
and the assistance of William Gib-
son are greatly appreciated by the
Huron -Perth -Bruce Epilepsy Socie-
ty. Raffle tickets are now available

LUCAN - Lucan Optimists re-
ported finding graffiti on picnic ta-
bles and benches last week at the
Optimist Park on Elm Street.

Caven Presbyterian
Church -summer acittties
EXETER - Summer activities
continue at Caven Presbyterian
Church throughout the summer. A
vacation Bible School is being held
on August 19 to 23 in the church
basement from 9:30 to 12:30 daily.
MI children, Kindergarten to Grade
6, are welcome. Tracy Whitson-
Bahro, Caven's Youth Worker and
several professional teachers are in
charge. Register by calling 235-
2784.
The Youth Group have met regu-
larly throughout the summer. Fol-
lowing the car wash in June, the
young people enjoyed a weiner
roast and several ball games. An al-
ternative to the Canada Wonder-
land trip has to be finalized.
Members, friends and guests of
Caven enjoyed a Blue Jay game on
June' Z9 at the Sky Dome in Toron-
to.Funwashadbyall.
Guest ministers in July were Rev.
David Fuller of Glencoe, Tracy
Whitson-Bahro of Dashwood and
Debbie Dolbear of Appin. The
Nursery and Sunday School pro-
gram has continued.

GRANTON - The Firemen's
Breakfast at the Fire Hall on Sun-
day morning. August 11 was well
attended and very enjoyable.
Get well wishes to Normalie
Voakes who is recuperating at
home and also Alma Nicholson
who has been confined to hospital
in St. Marys for several days.
George Crouch of Williamsburg,
Virginia and formerly of Granton
visited recently with Bill Powell
and Jean Noon.
Elizabeth Parkinson and son Rob-
ert celebrated the formers birthday
on Sunday with Catherine and
Dwayne Jeffrey and family.
Nora Wissell, Elsie Dann, Flor-
ence McRobert, Florence and Mar-
garet Bryan attended the Huron
County Playt,ouse at Grand Bend
on Friday to ;ee "Funny Money".
Muriel Lewis also went with the
Clandeboye WI group on Tuesday
to see the same play.
Jean Noon attended the Decora-
tion Day service at Christ Church,
Lakeside on July 21, and Bill Pow-
ell also attended, when the chancel
furniture from the former St. Thom-
as Anglican Church in Granton was
dedicated by the Rev. Roger
Harmsworth, a former Granton res-
ident. RogerMarvis and family are
moving to Northern Ireland where
Roger has received a church ap-
pointment.
Jeffrey, Margaret, Jean and Susan
Bryan attended the 50th wedding
anniversary open house for their
uncle and aunt Arnold and Marie
McGuffin held at the Thorndale
Community Centre on Sunday af-
ternoon.
Decoration day will be held at
Prospect Hill Cemetery next Sun-
day, August 18.
Flowers in the church were from
the funeral of Elsie Blackler.
Vacation Bible School
There was lots of fun and activity
at the Granton United Church last
week, Monday to Friday, August 5
to August 9 as about 55 children
gathered for the Vacation Bible
School. The program was led and
organized by a team of six enthu-
siastic and capable young people
who are part of the Ontario Street
Summer team from Clinton, under
the sponsorship of the Teen Lead-
ership Development Committee.
Eleven local teens supervised the
classes and led them from one ac-
tivity to the next. As usual, each
class looked forward to their morn -

CENTRALIA - Residents in the
community extend their sympathy
and prayers to Charles Zeigler, for-
mer pastor at Centralia and Zion
West United Churches. His wife,
Crystal Zeigler, was killed in an au-
tomobile accident on August 2 in
Oxford County.
At Heywood's Restaurant recent-
ly, 011ie Essery and Charlie Rol-
lings were High Hand winners in
the Monday afternoon euchre
games. Lone Hand winners were
Ethel Lewis and Percy Noels. The
Special was won by Mary Scott.
