By Cannel Sweeney Zurich correspondent ZURICH - The weather was good for the community yard sale on Sat- urday. The dates for the Marian Shrine for Masses in St. Marys, Ontario run from August 13-22 every day at 11 a.m. The family of Jerome and Car- mel Sweeney attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of their aunt Eleanor and uncle Pete Cecile in Windsor on August 11. All attended 12 o'clock mass at St. Gregory Church in St. Clair Beach followed by an Open House and social get together at the Senior Citizen hall in Tecumseh, Ontario. This happy occasion was hosted by their son Jim and Lin Cecile and three daughters of St. Clair Beach. Those attending were Heather, Paul and Tim Klopp, Beth Sweeney and Joe Boyle, along with Carrie and Dan Eybergen and Tiffany and Brittany o( Acworth, Georgia, Je- raldine Wszola of Southcott s, and her mother Edna Bedard of Michigan. Their original attendants were also there. Meagan Sweeney and Heidi Klopp along with Megan Gingerich are presently enjoying this week at "Camp Olalondo" near Thorndale. Congratulations to Anne Hartman and Stephen Harburn who were married at St. Boniface Church on Saturday, August 10 by Fr. Wron- ski, with dinner and reception at Zurich arena. The bride is the daughter of Ray and Janice Hart- man. The couple will be living in the Zurich area. Tom and Gail Smith and three children from Winnipeg,Manitoba spent the last 10 days visiting with his parents, Ralph and Audrey Smith. Other family members were also here to see them from Toronto, Minden, Barrie and Richmond Hill, May we offer sincere sympathy to the family of the late Vera Thiel who passed away on Sunday, Au- gust 11. Especially to her husband Tiny and brother Earl Flaxbard. Happy birthday wishes to Dolly Jeffrey, St. Josephs, who is 75 on August 13; Monique Gelinas on August 13, Mary Ducharme on Au- gust 4. A joint birthday supper and get together was held at the home of Mozart and Julie Gelinas Jr. to cel- ' ebrate for Mozart Sr. on August 7 and Carrie Eybergen on August 8 and Aimee Rau on August 9. A good time was had by the lead- ers and their families of the Cubs, Scouts and Beavers over the week- end as they camped at Ken Gas- cho's Park near Zurich and enjoyed such things as canoeing and rest- ing. The year end get together was attended by about 30 people. The annual St. Boniface Parish pork barbecue and corn roast was enjoyed by many people on Sun- day, August 11. All the proceeds from this event sponsored by the K. of C. will go towards the Bell Tower. Congratulations to Cliff and De- lores Gingerich, R.R.3, Zurich, on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary on August 7. A bridal shower was held for Debbie Jeffrey at St. Peter's Parish Hall, St. Joseph, on August 9 with several friends and relatives attend- ing. She is the daughter of Peter and Evelyn Jeffrey and fiancee of Ed- ward Meidinger, son of Leo and Cecile. An October wedding is planned. Congratulations to Gerard and Mary Ducharme who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 4 with a family dinner. Mozart and Julie Gelinas Jr. along with daughter Chantel and friend Melissa Etue of Seaforth re- cently spent four days in Ottawa visiting with his sister, Melissa and Neil Francis in Orleans and going to their cottage in Renfrew. A total of $425. was raised in Zu- rich'on Friday and Saturday for the Epilepsy Research foundation through the sale of flowers for "GIad Days". Dan and Carrie Eybergen and two girls have returned home to Georgia after spending the last couple weeks in the Zurich and Port Franks area. Stephen and Leela Denomme and twin daughters Danica and Jenae, of Abbotsford B.C. are presently visiting with his parents for two weeks . They are home to help celebrate his parents, Louis and Josephine Denomme's 50th wedding anniver- sary. An open house will be held on August 18 from 2-4 p.m. at the St. Boniface Parish Hall. Everyone welcome. The annual Masse family get to- gether and supper was held at the farm of Bill and Brenda DeGroot, R.R.2, Zurich on Saturday with a good turn out. The family of Ted and Jean Ge- offrey celebrated their 49th anni- versary on July 26 with a dinner at Millingtons, Brucefield. The fami- ly were then entertained at the home of Steve and Patti Geoffrey. A surprise 70th birthday party was held August 3 for Jerome Swzola, Grand Bend, by his son Jim and Judy Wszola with family member attending from the States and friends in the area. Congratulations to Brenda Neeb and Mark Lindenfield who were married on August 3 with an out- door wedding at her parents home, Jack Neeb and Sylvia. Dutch picnic celebration coming GRAND BEND - Pack up your lawn chairs and come to the Lambton Heritage Museum on Saturday August 24, from 10-5 p.m. to enjoy an afternoon of music, song and fun for the whole family, as the museum hosts a Dutch picnic. The Dutch Picnic will mark the conclusion of the popular ex- hibit 'Van Harte Welkom Vrien- den' which has been on display since opening in December of 1995. this will be the last chance visitors have to view the intri- guing assemt2lage of family his- tories, artifacts from Europe, clothing and other family tex- tiles that celebrate the achieve- ments of the Dutch community and their contributions to the County of Lambton. The out- door event celebrations will take place throughout the park -like setting of the museum grounds, and proceed rain or shine. The afternoon begins with a short ceremony and greetings from the Vice Consul of the Royal Dutch Embassy, Richard ter Vrucht. The mass choral group 'Con Spirito Choir' from Wyoming will sing and there will be a children's dance group. Later in the afternoon The Dyke - hoppers, brass band and wooden shoe dancers from London Onta- rio will provide music and fun for all as five couples step to the cheerful music. Entertaining in the gallery will be Irma Man- ning and Jo -Ann Boere, who sing traditional Dutch and Cana- dian folk songs. No picnic is complete without lood so either bring your own picnic basket, or take advantage of the food service by Henry Bruinink of Strathroy, who will be offering such Dutch treats as traditional ham and cheese buns and 'ollie bollen'. The Dutch treat of raw herring will also be available. Admission for the day is $3. for adults, $2.50 for seniors and students and $1.25 for children. The Lambton Heritage Museum is located 8 km. south of Grand Bend, across from the Pinery Provincial Park. Mark your cal- endar, and come out to enjoy your heritage. Rock concert GRAND BEND - The Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle and Grand Bend United Church Youth Groups have planned a Rock Concert to be held Saturday, August 17 starting at 7 p.m. and lasting until 11 p.m. The location for the concert will be "un- der the trees" behind the United Church on Queen Street.
