Dashwood Senior Citizens entered one of approximately
100 floats in the Friedsburg Days 1996 parade that cele-
brated 25 years.
Hi, Ho Silver! The Lone Ranger and Tonto were one of the
highlights of the Friedsburg Days parade held on Saturday.

DASHWOOD - The Friedsburg
Days 1996 parade had approxi-
mately 100 entries of floats, antique
cars, horses and their riders,
clowns, dancers, bands, etc. Fol-
lowing are the winners:
Theme float: first, Hubert and
Vesta Miller and family of Dash-
wood, theme "25 Years and Still
Ticking"; second, Dashwood Zion
Lutheran Church, theme "Silver
Lining Around the World"; third,
Ron and RuthAnn Merner of Dash-
wood, theme "Go for the Silver, Go
for the Gold";
Children under 10 years old: first,
Derek Thiel of Dashwood "A
Beautiful 25th Anniversary Cake";
second, Andrea Doroshenko of
Dashwood, dance and aerobatics in
25th costume;
Youth 11-16 years of age: first,
Eric Sorensen of Dashwood, "Mug
of Beer and Sausage"; second, Ja-
mie Becker of Dashwood, a Micro
4x4 Black Truck;
Youngest participant in parade:
Jessie Giffin, 5 weeks old of Lon-
don.
Coloring Cantata results: 3-5 year
olds - Curly Schroeder of Dash-
wood, Megan Hutchinson of Hu-
ston, Texas, Blair Finkbeiner of
Dashwood; 6-8 year olds - David
(fasse of Dashwood, Ashley Smith
of Dashwood, Lindsay -Jayne
Hayter of Dashwood.
The dances of the weekend were
a great hit. On Friday evening the
"Hooks Party Sound" entertained
and Saturday evening "New Life
Crisis" performed at a youth dance
and "The Fireflys" entertained at an
adult dance.
Sixty-nine children ages four to
11 participated in the Mini Tractor
Pull competition. Winners were:
Weight class under 50 lbs., four
to 11 years - Jordon Skinner of Zu-
rich, Adam Graff of Melborne, Jor-
don Ritchie of Hensall;
Weight class 50 - 75 lbs. - Jeff
Kramer of Ailsa Craig, Denise
Ritchie of Hensall, Ashton Durand-
Thorton of Grand Bend;
Weight class 75-100 lbs. - Jeff
Masse of Dashwood, Bryon Freiter
of Dashwood, Steven Mason of Ex-
eter.
Joe Becker ran the arm wrestling
competition with the following
winners:
Men: 120-140 lb. - first Trevor
Streuth, runnerup Robert Masse;
141-160 Ib. - first Sean Laporte,
runnerup Derek Kenny; 161-180 Ib.
first Tim Heffman, runnerup Jeff
Averill; 181-200 lb - first Ted Hoff-
man, runnerup Shawn Mason; 201
and over Ib. - first Devon Sham-
blan, runnerup Doug Willert;
Women's Open: first Karie-Sue
Kyle, second Donna Robinson,
third Barb Reschke.
The tug-of-war was run by Erich
Freiter with the following winners:
Women: first, The Foamers; sec-
ond, The Shooters. Best two out of
three pulls with the Foamers win-
ning in two consecutive pulls.
Men: first, Senior Sodbustcrs;
second, The Plugs; Tied for third,
The Gravclrunners, The Jcrkoffs.
The Plugs and Sodbusters tied for
first with five wins each after dou-
ble round-robin elimination forcing
a pull -off for first and second.
Junior Division: first, The Bull-
dogs; second, The Huskies; tied for
third, No Names and Junior Shoot-
ers.
Rob Hoffman organized the
Farmer", Walk with 13 contestants
registers. The weights were 185
lbs. per side. Jamie Oke, defending
champion from 1994-95, walked
297' 4" for first place, second went
to Dan Weigand at 261' 0", and
third to Devon Shamblan at 257' 0".
