GRAND BEND - Barbara
Wheeldon and David Sheppard of
Grand Bend will stand under the
spotlights in Toronto's Roy Thom-
son Hall as they take part in Can-
ada's largest seniors entertainment
showcase.
The comedy cabaret duo of
Whoeldon and Sheppard, known as
Jest the 2 of US, will perform in the
eighth annual Royal Bank Seniors
Jubilee which runs from August 12
to 16. They are among 120 acts
scheduled for the jubilee featuring
1,200 performers from 70 com-
munities across the province.
The unique event is designed to

allow performers who are 55 years
of age or older to appear in a pro-
fessionally produced show pre-
sented in a major venue. It was con-
ceived to provide seniors with en-
tertainment designed just for thein,
but is expanding to become a fanci-
ly affair attracting all ages.
"We just made the mark," said
Wheeldon about the 55 plus age re-
quirement.
Wheeldon sings and acts ac-
companied by Sheppard on the pi-
ano. The duo will perform two
numbers in Tuesday's main per-
formance. The first is a song called
"Geraldo" composed by a friend of
Wheeldon's. It is a whimsical tune
about being in love with the con-
troversial talk show host. The other
number is a comedy act called "Ru-
bie the Senior Stripper" where,
Wheeldon plays the part of
a....that's right...a senior stripper.
Decked out in the appropriate
clothing, or lack of, Wheeldon
winds her way through the audi-
ence sitting on men's laps during
the routine.
"I play the part of an old senior
who still thinks she has the goods,"
said Wheeldon who wrote the com-
edy sketch herself.
Sheppard, who has studied the pi-
ano since the age of six and has a
strong background in piano com-
edy, said he is thrilled about the
performance because he gets to
play the grand piano of legendary
pianist Glenn Gould.
Wheeldon, who has sat on Grand
Bend Council for the last two
years, is a theatre singer and actress
by profession and has held many
lead roles in productions at the Hu-
ron Country Playhouse. However,
this performance in Toronto will be
a new experience for her.
"I'm thrilled about singing on the
stage of the Roy Thomson Hall,"
said Wheeldon. "We're both very
excited about doing this."

Personals
Sympathy of the community is extended to Mary
Kerslake, family and relatives in the passing of the
late Howard Kerslake. Quite a number called at the
Dinney Funeral Home on Sunday to pay their re-
spect.
Bill and Rhoda Rohde spent a couple of days last
week with Ross and Kay Hodgen at a cottage at
Houston Heights south of Bayfield.
Larry and Barb Ballantyne, Jake and Deanne
Rooseboom spent last week on the Trent Waterways.
Keenagers enjoy many activities
AILSA CRAIG - For the farmers
in the area, this has been a slow
spring; however, for the Kennagers
at Craigwiel Day Centre for Sen-
iors, the word slow cannot apply.
No one has been rushed off their
feet, but there has been a steady
program of interesting activities
that certainly has kept away bore-
dom.
On April Fool's day, everyone
was given a packet of "Doughnut
Seeds" just in time for spring plant-
ing! If you see any of our members
gaining weight, it just may be that
they are reaping a bountiful harvest
from their seeds! Later on that
week, we had the fun of coloring a
large basket of Easter eggs to use in
an egg hunt for some eager chil-
dren.
Brown Bag Surprise has been one
of our recurring activities, but each
time people come up with different
articles to surprise us. It is always
fun to watch faces as the bag is
passed around the circle for partici-
pants to feel inside and guess what,
the contents are. This time our
Managing Director almost suffered
a "hizzy" when he hand touched
one of those soft plastic creatures
that are found in joke stores! Some
of those expressions were even cap-
tured on film to extend the fun.
While in the swing of guessing, I
we also had What's that Fruit? and
Kitchen Gadget days. We had fruit
such as ugli fruit, kiwi, paw -paws,
avocado, passion fruit and many
more that we had never become ac-
quainted with. The variety of
kitchen gadgets were amazing!
Some were familiar but many only i

Strawberries and weddings are
two things that come to mind in
June. One day the group made cute
little strawberries out of fabric, an-
other day they made strawberry
jam. They also watched some wed-
ding videos and some pictures of
family weddings.
Visitors and guest speakers once
more were highlights in the last
few months. Evelyn McNaughton
took the residents on a tour of
South Africa, then tales of the trip
she took to Ecuador and the Gala-
pagos Islands. Rolling from one
small boat to another in the heav-
ing waves of a stormy ocean, is
something most teenagers might
even find rather daunting, but that
won't stop Evelyn!
