Best collection of fossils is nearby
EXETER - Did you know that
the best collection of Devonian Era
fossils is not far from your home?
The Arkona Lions Museum and in-
formation Centre at Rock Glen
Conservation Area has a great col-
lection of local fossils and native
artifacts.
You can find out more about this
collection Sunday, August 11 at 2
p.m. at the tenth anniversary cele-
brations of the museum. John and
Mike Toper will give a presentation
on local fossils. If you have fossils
but don't know the names, bring
them along for the Topers to identi-
fy.
The Topers, residents of Michi-
gan, visited Rock Glen Conserva-
tion area on a school trip several
years ago and have been returning
ever since. They have generously
donated a new exhibit which will
be officially opened Sunday. The
exhibit has been in place for over a
month and John Jansen, a member
of the Arkona Lions Club, has re-
ceived several good comments
about the collection.
Along with the fossil presenta-
tion, there will be much to see and
do throughout the afternoon.
"Stroll along the nature trails, hunt
for fossils, view the scenic water-
falls or just relax under the trees,"
encouraged Kate Monk of the Aus-
able-Bayfield Conservation Au-
thority. All facilities and scenic
lookouts are barrier -free.
The Arkona Lions Club will be
on hand with food and refresh-
ments throughout the afternoon.
Admission to the park is 52 per
person. Preschool children accom-
panied by an adult are free. If you
have more questions about the
day's events, please contact any Li-
ons
Club member or the Rock Glen
Conservation Area at 519-828-
3071.
