Firefighters arrived in time to douse the blaze which was threatening to ignite a nearby residence. The 1988 Ford pick up truck owned by Donald Averill, 50, was destroyed. The resulting blaze also caused $3,500 in damages to the west side of a building at 429 Main Street. Barndance Live! to be held over BLYTH - Due to popular de- mand, Barndance Live!, the 1996 season -opener at the Blyth Festival will be held over for an extra five performances. The play, which cel- ebrates the great touring radio show The CKNX Barn Dance, was set to close Friday, August 23. However, with many performances sold out, rave reviews continuing, and box office demand still high, a decision has been made by Artistic Director Former Exeterites meet Two former Exeterftes met in Toronto at the provincial awards banquet of Crime Prevention Ontario. Former Exeter police chief Larry Hardy, representing the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, was a presenter, while JoAnne (Whilsmith) Payne, a graduate of South Huron District High School, was the recipient of an award. She was so honored for producing and implementing a program in the Kingston 4rea called Safe School Partners. The program, offered on the Internet, is being used by schools and police forces as far away as Texas and British Columbia. JoAnne is an employee of the Frontenac County Board of Education and was nominated for the award by the Kingston City Police Force. Janet Amos to hold extra perfor- mances from September 5 to 7, with evening shows at 8:30 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. on Thurs- day, September 5 and Saturday, September 7. In addition to these extra perfor- mances, a matinee of Barndance Live! is scheduled for Friday, Au gust 23 as a benefit performance for the Actors' Fund of Canada and the Barn Dance Hall of Fame in Wingham. Barndance Live! features a talent- ed cast of actors and musicians as well as various local acts. Critics have called it "a loving tribute to the past," "a musical trip down memory lane", "a great evening of local fun", "down-home fun", "a humdinger of a collective," " a skilled blend of several stories" and "a good time". If you have fossils but don't know the names, bring them along for the Topers to identi- fy. The Topers, residents of Michi- gan, visited Rock Glen Conserva- tion area on a school trip several years ago and have been returning ever since. They have generously donated a new exhibit which will be officially opened Sunday. The exhibit has been in place for over a month and John Jansen, a member of the Arkona Lions Club, has re- ceived several good comments about the collection. Along with the fossil presenta- tion, there will be much to see and do throughout the afternoon. "Stroll along the nature trails, hunt for fossils, view the scenic water- falls or just relax under the trees," encouraged Kate Monk of the Aus- able-Bayfield Conservation Au- thority. All facilities and scenic lookouts are barrier -free. The Arkona Lions Club will be on hand with food and refresh- ments throughout the afternoon. Admission to the park is 52 per person.
