the Staffa Women's Institute was

Health Care, Education and Work
Fare. She gave an interesting pres-
entation and answered many ques-
tions from the group. She was in-
troduced by Margaret Kemp and
thanked by Margaret Daynard.
In the absence of President Kay
Smale, first vice Joyce Miller pre-
sided, opening with the Institute
Ode and Mary Stewart Collect.
Minutes were read and approved
and treasurer's report received. Ten
members answered the roll call by
naming a current womens concern.
Members were reminded of the
cookies and tarts for August 9 and
some upcoming events this fall.

meeting which she had attended re-

Sunny skies for Zurich Fair
The Eybergen sisters from Georgia entertained
on Friday night.

ZURICH - It was a nice sunny weekend for the Zurich Fair.
The talent show Friday night featured local entertainment along with the
Eybergen sisters from Georgia. Master of ceremonies was Paul Klopp.
Due to a lack of entrants to the Fair Ambassador contest, there was no
contest this year. Last year's winner Renee Sweeney was on hand to say a
few words. She will be attending the C.N.E. Ambassador Competition in
Toronto on August 16-18.
Local merchants sponsored the baby show by donating gifts. Judges
were Jennifer Taylor of Hensall and Francine Vanasse of Zurich.
There was a parade, exhibits, displays, a petting zoo, livestock shows
and a road hockey tournament. Other activities included a horse show, fid-
dler's jamboree and a supper on Sunday.
Terry Fox run
Sponsor sheets are available at various stores around Zurich for the an-
nual Terry Fox run taking place on September 22 at the Zurich Park at
2:00 p.m. Captain Wendy Rowan needs help for this project to raise mon-
ey for cancer research. If you can help call her at 236-4882.
Tug of War team
The Blue Water Tug of War Team have been raising money to cover ex-
penses for their travels by doing roofing and various types of jobs. If you
want more information call Ivan Bedard.
Barbecue and corn roast
Members of the K. of C. Council are planning for their annual parish
pork barbecue and corn roast on the lawn August 11. No tickets are needed
ahead of time.
Bean festival meeting
The next bean festival meeting will be held on July 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the
festival kitchen. Plans are underway for the August 24 activities.
Golf fundraiser
The fourth annual fund raising golf tournament was held at Bayview
Golf Club, RR 2 Zurich on July 20 with a good turnout of participants.
This event is organized by Donald (Corky) and Shirley Bedard of Michi-
gan in honor of their late son Dan.
All the proceeds made from the tournament will go for the AIDS Re-
search Foundation. .
A barbecue supper and get-together was held afterwards at the Bedard's
Cottage at Bayview subdivision.
Locals attend Olympics
Local connections to the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta are Pat
Rowe, who is a badminton judge and Carrie Eybergen, who is a Site Man-
ager for the Rhythmic Gymnastics on August 1. The teacher and former
student have already had dinner together in Atlanta and have exchanged
"Olympic stories."
A Sharing of Resources
Friedsburg Days
Plans are underway for the 25th anniversary for Dashwood's Friedsburg
Days from August 2-4.
The parade will begin on Saturday, August 3 at 11:30 a.m. along with
activities all weekend long.
Community yard sale
A community yard sale is planned on Saturday, August 10 from 8 a.m.
to 6 p.m. There will also be a farmer's market that day at the arena.
Personals
Lewis and Marlene Gingerich recently spent a few days at her sister's
cottage in Kingsbridge.
A surprise 70th birthday party was held, for Margaret Reid, Varna on
July 27 held at the home of her mother Emma Schilbe in Zurich.
Brayden Scott Regier was baptized at St. Boniface Church on July 28 by
Fr. Wronski. He is the son of Raymond Regier and Carrie Cleave.
Happy anniversary wishes go to Myrna and Norm Thomas on July 25.
A good time was had by all who attended the ban jamboree and social
get-together held at the Homestead Trail Park near Bayfield on July 27,
hosted by Ron and Sharon Schroeder. While the adults listened to music,
the children had fun swimming in the pool. All enjoyed the supper.
Brothers Curtis and Kyle Denomme from Calgary are spending a three-
week vacation 'with their grandparents Lloyd and Virginia Denomme and
visiting with relatives in the area. The boys are the sons of Mike and Nor-
ma.
Ruth -Ann Flaxbard of London spent the weekend with her parents Earl
and Anne Flaxbard and attended the Zurich Fair and helped her mother
with4he culinary arts food division.
George and Rosalie Harvey of Redford, Michigan are spending this
week at their cottage north of St. Joseph.
Airplanes fly to
Goderich Air Show

CENTRALIA - Sunday July 28,
was a lovely summer day and sev-
eral people took advantage of the
weather to fly their airplanes from
Centralia Airport to the Goderich
Air Show. The day started with a
great pancake breakfast, and in-
cluded static displays during the
morning of vintage aircraft such as
the Lancaster from the Canadian
Heritage Museum in Hamilton.
Later in the day, many people
from the community enjoyed the
beef barbecue at Centralia United
Church. Good fellowship accompa-
nied a delicious meal of barbecued
beef, baked potatoes, baked beans,
and pie.

In late June, a dance group from Beal S.S. visited Mrs. Berg-
mann's grade 7 class and performed a South African re-
sistance dance. The group, comprised of Karen Hypes, phys-
ical education teacher and students John Ramirez, Molly
Johnston, Teresa Douthwright and Kyle Rozman, volunteered
their time and talents to demonstrate the "Gum Boor Dance
to students at the South Huron Rec Centre. Jane Hefty, pres-
ident of the Exeter Parents Association arranged the visit with
Karen Hypes. The visit enabled the Grade 7 students to leam
sortie of the political history of South Africa as well as learning
this traditional dance. Mrs, Hypes has volunteered to bring
other dance groups to Exeter P.S. in the future and share her
numerous talents with the students. Shown above, left to

Pastor Heather Smith enjoys a
well-deserved vacation. Everyone
is invited to mark on their calen-
dars the combined service which
will be held at Centralia on Sep-
tember 1 at 10 a.m.
Summer is a wonderful time to
attend some great theatre produc-
tions in the area. In addition to the
plays being presented at Grand
Bend, Blyth and Stratford, a musi-
cal pageant, "The Promise", will be
shown at the Eslie Dodge Conser-
vation Area in Forest from July 26-
28. This two-hour presentation in-
cludes song and narration to tell the
story of the life of Jesus. Tickets
are S5 for adults and $2 for ele-
mentary students. They are availa-
ble at the gate or by contacting the
box office at the Sarnia Eaton's
Centre, 519 -344 -SHOW.
At Heywood's Restaurant recent-
ly, Bernice Squire and Harry Noels
were high hand winners in the
Monday afternoon euchre games.
Lone hand winners were Mary
Wallis and Percy Noels. The spe-
cial was won by Gladys Alexander.

Gladys Kirk from Hamiota, Alber-
ta.
Doris Miller and John and Rober-
ta Templeman joined Jean Mayer
and family at the home of Bob and
Joyce McDonald, Exeter on Satur-
day, where they celebrated Jean's
80th birthday, with an afternoon of
visiting and a bountiful supper
complete with cake and ice cream.
Over 40 family members were
present from St. Catharines, Kitch-
ener, Stoney Creek, London and
Exeter.
The 60th Harper, McPherson re-
union was held at the log cabin of
Jack and Phylis McPhail, Blan-
chard township, with 58 in atten-
dance.
Ron Kraemer, president, spoke
briefly about when James and Ma-
riah (Welsh) Harper came from
Quebec to the Carlingford area.
Son William and Janet (McPher-
son) Harper took up the west 50
acres of lot 16, concession 6, Ful -
!anon township. They raised a fam-
ily of eight boys and four girls. A
moment of silence was observed in
their honor.
Kraemer gave the blessing and
all enjoyed a dinner including cake
and ice cream. He conducted a
short business meeting.
The president asked all to go out-
side for picture -taking.
The executive for 1997 is: presi-
dent Ron Kraemer; vice president
George Kraemer; secretary treasur-
er Esther Smale; Host/hostess Ron
and Nancy Kraemer, Flora and Al-
vin Hodge, James and Edith Harp-

Brenda Fink conducted a good
line of sports for all to enjoy. The
oldest present was Isobel Baird and
the youngest, Eric Falconer.
