By Carmel Sweeney Zurich correspondent ZURICH - The theme for the Zu- rich Fair is "Celebrating our heri- tage" which begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the arena. The Talent Show will start the program followed by the Ambassador Contest. After the contest, a dance will take place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The Zurich Fair dance tickets cost $5.00 in advance from Carmel Sweeney or $6.00 at the door. "The Fire Flys" will provide the live mu- sic at the arena. On Saturday, July 27 the parade starts at 11:30 a.m. The Zurich Fair will host a Baby Show on Saturday in the Auditorium at 2 p.m. There are three categories and the ages are zero to 12 months. All babies are welcome and may register that day. The annual Mid -Western Horse Show will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. The famous Old Time Fid- dler's Jamboree will be held in the auditorium from 2-7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for a buffet supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Yard sale The village of Zurich will hold their annual community yard sale and farmer's market on Saturday, August 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be held at the arena or in front of private homes around town. If interested in a booth, phone the village office at 236- 4974. Pop can collection The K. of C. of St. Boniface par- ish are collecting pop cans. The money raised for the cans will go towards the Building Fund. The cans can be left at either Doug De - Bus's home or Ralph Smith's home. Barbecue A chicken barbecue will be held at the Mennonite church hall on Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. Advance tickets only. Personals Anne Desuzal and son Steven and friend from San Francisco, Cal- ifornia are presently visiting with her mother and grandmother Jerry Kane. Bert Wallace, R.R.2, Zurich along with her son Dale and Lisa returned home on Sunday after a two week vacation in Calgary. They were visiting with her daugh- ter and sister Shelley and Fack Treenouth and family. William Austin, son of Murray and Lori Armstrong and Stephanie Lynn, daughter of Rob and Lisa Miller were baptized at St. Boni- face church by Fr. Wronski on July 14. Welcome Michael and Yvonne Hartman who have moved from Waterloo to a newly renovated farm home near Bayfield. Congratulations to Tony and Wil- lie VerBerne who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary July 13 with several friends from the Zu- rich area. Happy Birthday to Jennifer Erb who was 17 on July 12, Amy Schilbe on July 24 and Kraig and Jamie Eckel on July 27. Anniversary wishes go to Darren and Aimee Rau on July 22 who are celebrating their first, and Jeff and Rosie Rothenberg on July 24. Irla Gingerich and her sister Ber- nice spent 10 days in Oregon at the home of Gingerich's son, David and Betty -Ann Gingerich and fami- ly While there, they attended the wedding of Cheryl Gingerich, granddaughter and niece on July 29. Brian and Rose -Mary Rader and their two children and Kenny and Bruce Overholt and two children spent last week camping near Ket- tle Point. Zurich has a new store on Main Street called Plantations. A Buck and Doe will be held July 26 at the Hensall Community Cen- tre for Randy Regier, son of Pat and Evelyn Regier and Angela Reid. A Buck and Doe will be held for Vicki Regier, daughter of Eu- gene and Deb Regier, and Dan McCarter on July 27 at the Hensall Arena. Tiffany and Brittany Eybergen of Acworth, Georgia are holidaying with grandparents in Port Franks, cousins in Stratford and will stay with their Sweeney grandparents . and relatives in the Zurich area while their mother Carrie Eybergen is working at the Olympic Games in Georgia and their father Dan Ey- bergen is away on business. The yearly family reunion for Blanche Ducharme's children and relatives took place Sunday at the home of son Ray and Pauline Du- charme, Camlachie, Ontario. Games were enjoyed by both the young and old, followed by a smor- gasbord supper. Cecile Liboiron from Ponteix Saskatchewan spent the weekenc with her sister-in-law Blanche anc attended the family reunion, and visited with relatives in Kitchener. A bridal shower was held at the home of Martha Overholt on Sun- day for a niece Tracy Overholt of London, daughter of Gerard and Anne. By Liz Sangster Hensall correspondent HENSALL - At Hensall United Church on Sunday "Fairest Lord Jesus" was sung followed by Psalm 139:1-12 and 2:3-24. The Old Tes- tament reading was from Genesis 28:10-19. Rev. Annen welcomed everyone and greetings were ex- changed. Many visitors were present. The children's hymn "Jesus Loves the Little Children" was sung before their story "What kind of a person are You?" Prayers of title people, readings from Matthew, aid Rev. Henry's Message "Weeds Bicycle reported stolen EXETER - Police report a man's Katmandu Norco, 21 speed blue bi- cycle was stolen on July 12 from McDonalds Restaurant. The bike is valued at $400. Time to congratulate Crediton organist CREDITON - Members and friends of Crediton United Church will join with relatives and friends of Doug Lewis in congratulating him Friday night of this week. Lewis, the church organist for the past 25 years retired on June 30 and will be honored Friday night at the Stephen Township Community Centre in Crediton. The full evening of events will begin at 6 p.m. as guests will min- gle with the. celebrity. A half hour later a potluck supper will be served. Those attending are asked to bring casseroles, salads, desserts, etc. Those unable to attend the supper are asked to be at the hall by 8 p.m. for further mingling and presenta- tions and tributes at 8.30 p.m. fol- lowed by music and impromptu en- tertainment. Bring a musical instrument. Gaines and dancing will follow. Those attending the later session are asked to bring sandwiches and snack foods. Cake and ice cream will be provided. There will be no Vacation Bible School this summer. The first Sun- day in August Rev. Peebles will be the guest minister due to Rev. An - nen being on vacation. Best wishes go to Dorothy Parker on_her special birthday. July 28 will be Decoration Day at Hensall Union Cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family and friends of Jean Travis, the Slavin family, the Moody family, and the family and friends of the late Ma- bel (Fee) Ball, a former Hensall resident. This week at the Hensel) Play- ground the theme is "Under the Big Top". There will be lots of clow- nin' around, creepy crawler crafts, and a carnival. The children will be visiting the Fire Hall. The van was unlocked and the keys were left in the ignition. The ownership and insurance were in the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered in London on July 19 with little dam- age.
