s ing and atmrtoaphere are as much an
attraction as the food.
Thursday the "Nashville Rejects"
music was enough to get everyone
into a toe tappin' good party mood.
Staff even had a great time helping
residents up to dance. Volunteer
Marg Cole loaned her hilarious
video "The Carol Burnett Show,

Rumors delivers promise
of light, frivolous comedy
Simon's show give Play-
house audiences some-
thing to laugh about
By Heather Mir
T -A Reporter
GRAND BEND - Opening night
of Neil Siml,rt's Broadway show
Rumors last Wednesday at Huron
Country Playhouse won over an au-
dience that appreciated the fast -
paced comedy.
Rumors is set in the home of
New York's deputy mayor, Charlie
and his wife, Myra, who are cel-
ebrating their 10th wedding an-
niversary with four couples. When
the host and his wife are not at the
party, an elaborate plan is hatched
by the first guests in order to cover
up a possible attempted suicide.
Ken and Chris Gorman arrive
early at the formal dinner party to
find the help gone and the food left
unprepared. Acting as Charlie's
lawyer, Ken decides it is best to de-
termine what has happened before
informing the police or any of the
other guests.
Charlie has been shot and his
Myra is missing. The events lead-
ing up to these circumstances,
however, is left to some rather wild
imaginations.
Hardly a line goes by without a
pun or quip but by the second act
Simon's continuous banter wears
thin however lines are landed with
perfect timing and the set design
complements the high energy ac-
tion on stage. Running up and
down the staircase, the actors get a
workout while delivering speeches
that at times leaves them breath-
less.
Nora Sheehan is especially en-
tertaining as the self-sacrificing
Cookie, host of a local cooking
show. Cookie whips up dinner for
10 despite a bad back and a severe
gash in her arm.
Familiar faces to the Playhouse
stage include Melodee Findlay as
Chris Gorman, Peter Jens Haworth
as Ken Gorman, ian Deakin as
Glenn Cooper, Audrey Webb as
Cassie Cooper and Frank McAnul-
ty as &nie Cussack. New mem-
bers of the cast include Mary Long
as Claire Ganz, Danny Wengle as
Lenny Ganz, Nora Sheehan as
Cookie Cussack, Peter Mashall as
Officer Welch and Dorothy Downs
as Officer Pudney.
The play, directed by Marcia
Kash and sponsored by 3M, runs
until July 13. Tickets are available
by calling the Playhouse Box Of-
fice at 1-800.706.6665 or 519-238-
6000.
Bev Skinner was improperly
identified in one of the four photo-
graphs of the South Huron Hospi-
tal Association's 43rd Annual
Meeting that appeared in the T -A
last week. The T -A apologizes for
the error.
