and Hickson
Jeff Flnkbelner, 18, from Crediton poses beside London
Mayor Dianne Haskett in London on Thursday after carry-
ing the "etemal flame of hope" for one kilometre during
the Paralympic Torch Relay and Caravan. The event, orga-
nized by the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled
Persons, the Rotary Clubs of Canada and the Canadian
Paralympics Committee is a coordinated marathon route
that lights two torches in Toronto which are simultaneous-
ly flown to both coasts and make their way back from
both sides of the country. This national torch relay helps
raise funds for parathletes who will compete at Olympic
Stadium in Atlanta Georgia at the Paralympics which be-
gin August 15. Finkbeiner was one of an estimated
100,000 Canadians who carried the nom& that will even-
tually make its way to Atlanta to light the Games torch.

UWO holds summer
basketball clinic
PARKHILL - The University of
Western Ontario Intercollegiate
Athletic Program is offering a bas-
ketball clinic for youths this sum-
mer.
Sport Western Basketball Camps
have been a popular sumer tradition
at the university for 20 years. The
mode! will be presented outside of
London for the first time in Park-
hill, St. Thomas and Stratford.
This year's camps will be co-
ordinated by recent Mustang stand-
outs Bradley Campbell and Bren-
dan Noonan, who have also served
on the coaching staff. Their posi-
tive teaching approach and enthu-
siasm make them a big hit with
campers of all ages and abilities.
Other coaches include incoming
Mustang Richard Tamminga and
current players.
The camp, open to youths be-
tween the ages of 10 and 14 will
promote the learning of offensive
and defensive skills and teamwork.
Campers will be involved in games,
drills and special events.
The camp, located at North Mid-
dlesex Secondary School, is look-
ing for between 30 and 45 people
and each must provide his or her
own shorts, socks and shoes. There
is a registration fee. The camp will
be offered July 29 to August 2 and
again from August 5 to 9.
The Parkhill camp runs half days
with girls in the morning and boys
in the afternoon. The final registra-
tion date is on July 23. The Strat-
ford camp is co-ed and runs for a
full day. Final date for registration
is August 1.

EXETER - Exeter Imperials trav-
elled to Shakespeare last Tuesday
night and dropped a 7-3 decision.
With Steve Cook ab-
sent due to work com-
mitments, and Kevin
Gooder missing due to
car troubles, Wayne
Pellow was called on
to make his first
start of the sea-
son. He pitched
three and a third in-
nings, giving up three
runs on four hits. Sean
Pellow pitched the rest
of the game in relief.
Offensively, Greg
Rutledge led the way
with two hits and two
runs scored while Darren
Kints had three hits and
Glenn Hines also singled
and scored. Sean Pellow
singled twice while Wayne
Pellow, Greg Dalrymple and Chris
Kennedy added singles.
On Sunday afternoon, in the first
game of a planned doubleheader,
two runs in the first and six runs in
the second were the difference as
visiting Hickson edged Exeter 8-7.
Starter Kevin Gooder took the loss
as he allowed all eight runs on
eight hits in one and one-third in-
nings.
Steve Cook took over in relief
and pitched shutout ball for five
and two thirds, allowing one hit
and walking one while striking out
10. Greg Dalrymple was the hitting
star for Exeter as he homered and
singled twice and drove in two runs
while scoring three. Steve Cook
added two hits and drove in three
runs while Robb Finch singled and
doubled. Chris Kennedy also sin-
gled and doubled and scored a run
in the 11 hit attack.
The second game, which was
scheduled against Woodstock, was
forfeited as Woodstock was unable
to field a team.
