EXETER - The Exeter Womens
Soccer team notched their third win
of the season after defeating the
London Portuguese in back-to-back
action last week.
Exeter hosted London Portuguese
last Wednesday, and dominated the
game allowing their goalie to touch
the ball only. once during the first
half. Despite many efforts by Exet-
er the strong goalie from London
prevailed and the half ended in a
0-0 tie.
Halfway through the second half,
Exeter was awarded a penalty shot
after a London defender stopped
the ball with her hand. Cindy
Moore took the penalty shot and
scored, giving Exeter the 1-0 lead.
Exeter continued to dominate the
game but could not score again.
Jana Webster recorded the shout
for Exeter.

coaches Gary Hartman and Jeff
Kellet had to fill in the ranks and
play ball during Exeter's away
game in Byron on Thursday.
The coaches found they didn't
have enough players to field a team
and had to take up the vacant posi-
tions to prevent a forfeit. The action
was legal since Exeter is playing in
a senior league, however, despite
lending their experience to this
juvenile -age team Exeter lost 8-3 to
first place Byron.
Daryl Hartman went the distance
on the mound pitching a full nine
innings. He struck out seven bat-
ters, walked two and allowed 10
hits.
Exeter committed a total of three
errors.
Jason Maskell led the offense
with a deep home run over the right
field fence. Darryl Hartman hit a
double, Dale Hopf two singles and
Scot Kemp, Dwight Gingerich, Jeff
Keller each contributed singles.
Coach Hartman also managed to
hit a single without throwing his
back out of place.

their own end. They came alive
halfway through the first half when
Kristin Strang blasted a perfect shot
past the London goalie into the far
top corner of the net. Shortly after
that, Ain Heeney found the net on
a scramble in front of the net and
beat the goalie by putting it in the

half with a 2-0 lead.
Riding on a two goal lead, Exeter
came out strong again in the second
half hungry for another goal.
Backed up by their defence, Exet-
er managed to keep the ball in Lon-
don's end for the entire second
half. Daphane Deman scored with
about 10 minutes left in the game
to secure Exeter's win at 3-0. Jana
Webster recorded her second shut-
out.
With the back-to-back wins, Ex-
eter is only two points away from a
playoff spot with their record now
at three wins, three ties and five
losses.

Fury dominate Tillsonburg
EXETER - The Exeter Fury host-
ed Tillsonburg Sunday winning 4-1
in a game the Fury took over in the
second half.
The first half saw very few scor-
ing chances for either team with
Exeter's goal occurring on a very
innocent -looking play. A scramble
in the Tillsonburg end resulted in
Chuck Walker finding a loose ball
and firing it into the net for a 1-0
Fury lead.
The score stayed that way until
the second half when John Watson
notched his second goal of the year
and then shortly after was fouled in
the box giving the Fury a penalty

SIMCOE - Andrea Weigand and
Laura Pearson won the ladies pairs
in junior competition held Sunday
in Simcoe. They defeated a Simcoe
team in a best -of -three match. With
this win they will advance to the
Ontario finals in London at the
Fairmont Club in conjunction with
the Ontario Summer Games August
15 to 18.
Also participating from Exeter in
their first tournament were Chad
Smith, Jason Batten and Shawn
Kramer. Smith and Batten played
pairs against Tilbury and Simcoe
and lost by 16-13 and 21-13 re-
spectfully.
Kramer played singles against
two players from Simcoe and one
from London and managed a win
over one opponent.
The bowlers showed very well
for their first tournament action.
shot. Pete McAllister made no mis-
take on the shot giving Exeter a 3-1
lead.
Goalkeeper Craig Winbow's
steady work in the net kept Tillson-
burg off the scoresheet until late in
the game when the Fury's defen-
sive coverage broke down ruining
the team's shutout. McAllister re-
sponded quickly driving the ball
out of the air past the stunned Till-
sonburg keeper to finish the scor-
ing.
The Fury have completed the first
half of their season compiling a 4-
3-2 record. Their next game is Sun-
day in St. Thomas.
