Grand Finale in Hibbert Township near
So plan to join us and Mingle and
Mix in 961
Dear Editor:
The Grand Finale in Hibbert Township is near at
hand. For the past three years "everybody and their
neighbour" has been organizing and planning for
the celebration of the Sesquicentennial of the found-
ing of their township. Have they got a party
planned! There is lots to do for everyone, young and
old. And it's being held in Dublin on August 2,3 &
4.
On Friday, August 2, the weekend starts off with
the official opening ceremonies and registration at 6
pin. This is followed by a local talent show and
dancing to "The Blenders". The evening ends with a
special Sesquicentennial cake, coffee and juice.
Saturday, August 3, promises to be never-ending
action with the parade at 11 a.m. followed by a co-
ed volleyball tournament, children's program and a
beef barbecue and dance in the evening. Tickets
must be purchased for the barbecue before July 20.
"Black Water Draw", a very popular band, will pro-
vide the music for the dance. A sell-out crowd is ex-
pected, so get your tickets in advance - they're also
cheaper.
Sunday, August 4, winds things up with a pancake
breakfast, for which advance tickets must be pur-
chased before July 30.
There will he an Interdenominational Church Ser-
vice at 10:30 a.m. followed by the closing ceremo-
nies at 2:30 p.m.
The entire weekend will feature both indoor and
outdoor displays with memorabilia, antique tractors,
cars, train locomotive, etc. There's lots of food
available and a flea market featuring Hibbert Town-
ship talents will be held Saturday. Plenty of parking
is available, along with R.V. parking, and all facili-
ties will meet handicap requirements. Advance tick-
ets for the events can be purchased at Edighoffers in
Mitchell, 348-8463, Cardno's Men's Wear in Sea -
forth, 527-0569 and Hibbert Township office in
Dublin, 345-2931.
So plan to join us and "Mingle and Mix in 96!"
Let's show the spirit of Hibbert Township by sup-
porting the efforts of its residents to celebrate 150
years of growing and working together to become
the great community it is today.
Thank you for this opportunity to tell all your
readers about our plans for this celebration. See you
there!
Yours truly,
Jo Van Loon
Town clock stopped again!!
I wonder what the hang up is, I
don't mind some of my tax dol-
lars going to fixing....
Dear Editor:
Having complained about the Town Hall clock in
the past, I felt it was about time I ,congratulated all
concerned on getting it working again. Oops, it has
stopped again, just as I was getting used to the
Where has our
patriotism gone?
"We still live in one df the most desirable
countries in the world."
Dear Editor.
Another Canada Day has come and gone. Many flags have been taken
down and neatly folded away until next year. I have often wondered why
these flags have to come down.
It's amazing how many homes and businesses in the States have their
flags up all the time.
Are we not as proud as Americans?
I went to Grand Bend to celebrate 129 years of independence of our
great country.
There was an enormous crowd and the fireworks were excellent.
Many people were carrying Canadian flags and wearing shirts and hats
in our country's colours - yet I found it extremely odd and disturbing that
not once did this large gathering of proud Canadians sing '0 Canada'. Is
this not the whole reason why we were gathered together in the first
place?
My friends and I thought that if we started to sing our anthem many
people would naturally join in. To our shock, no one, not one single per-
son, joined in!
In fact, we got odd looks from many people.
I asked one person walking nearby, carrying a Canadian flag and wear-
ing a 'Canada' hat, why he did not join in? His response was that he was
singing under his breath. Well, in my opinion, if it doesn't come from the
heart, it doesn't really matter!
Another friend went to Harris Park for the festivities. She indicated that
she too was surprised that after the fireworks were over, they did not sing
our anthem.
I just could not believe this. I realize that we have many issues and
problems in our country, but where has our patriotism gone?
We still live in one of the most desirable countries in the world. When
are Canadians going to realize this?
Why are we not as proud as we should be?
Sincerely,
Josey Christmas
Information requested from readers
Dr. Moir was bom in Hensall, fol-
lowing gradution he practised
briefly in Manitoba before return-
ing to Hensall.
Dear Editor
I am currently doing some research into the life
and career of Dr. Alexander Moir, a native and
longtime resident of Hensall Ontario, and I would
like the help of your readers in finding more infor-
mation about him.
Dr. Moir was born in 1874 in Hensall. Following
graduation from the University of Manitoba, he
practised briefly in that province before returning to
Hensall. He established his practice in Hensall some
time before 1920.
Around 1429, in association with a local lawyer
by the name of Stanbury, he purchased a supply of
radium, and opened the Huron Springs Sanatorium,
where he treated patients with cancer. The building
which housed the sanatorium is still visible approxi-
mately one and a half kilometres south of Hensall
on the east side of Highway 04.
I would be very pleased to hear from any of your
readers who have either personal reminiscences or
other information about Dr. Moir and his sanatori-
um. I would be particularly interested to hear from
anyone who can lead me to further information
about the arrangement that was made between Mr.
Stanbury and Dr. Moir for the purchase of radium.
Correspondence can be dinacted to me at: King-
ston Regional Cancer Centre, 25 King Street West,
Kingston, Ontario, K7L 5P9.
Yours sincerely,
Charles R.R. Hayter, MD, FRCPC,
Radiation Oncologist.
sound of the bell. As I have said before, the Town
Hall and clock are the focus point of the town and
both should be kept in good repair. I wonder what
the hang up is, I don't mind some of my tax dollars
going to fixing and maintaining both of them. In
fact I would even contribute to a maintenance fund,
particularly for the clock, if that's what it takes.
Yours,
John Sanderson

Walkway stones engraved
".,.despite our repeated efforts, we were un-
able to get them cut in earlier."
Dear Editor:
Approximately 75 stones have been engraved in the MacNaughton
Park walkway in the past two weeks. Some of these donations were
made last fall and should have been cut in months ago.
We apologize for the lengthy delay. However, despite our repeated
efforts, we were unable to get them cut in earlier.
On behalf of the Exeter Lions Club Parks Committee I want to
thank all of these donors for their patience and understanding during
these very trying times. We will do everything we can to ensure this
does not happen again.
