HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes Advocate, 1996-07-10, Page 725th Anniversary for Dashwood's Friedsburg Days Fun -filled days planned for August 2 to 4 DASHWOOD - Friedsburg Days celebrates its 25th Anniversary on August 2, 3 and 4. The German Festival begins with a "Bingo" on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. held in the community centre; with $1800 in prizes to be won. After the bingo, all are invited to the Bavarian Gardens for some famous German sausage and sauerkraut and the chance to dance the evening away with Hook's Party Sound. The fun -filled Saturday is kicked off with the popular Friedsburg Days Parade at 11:30 a.m. The parade theme focuses on the 25th Anniversary of the Community Event. All the local businesses are encouraged to join in. The rest of Saturday is jammed packed with activities for the whole family. The children can enjoy face -painting, mini -tractor pull competition, train rides, the dunk tank and a sing -a -long with Dennis Siren. Adults can participate in events such as : arm -wrestling, tug-of-war and the farmers walk. Local dance clubs, The Cloggers and Rhine Danube Dancers are booked to perform throughout the day. Saturday evening, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., plan to rock and roll with the live band "The Fireflys" On Sunday, all are welcome to come to the 10 a.m. Church Service and Community Breakfast. The afternoon will be packed with German music performed by the Kitchener Concordia Brass Band. The family Chicken Barbecue will put a delicious closure to the weekend. FAMILY Times -Advocate, July 10, 1996 Page 7 Fit for Heart Physiques Aerobic Studio organized a Fit for Heart Aero- bathon Tuesday night that raised $1,300 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Twenty participants completed half hour workouts between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Local businesses donated food and prizes for the event. Pictured at front left is Spring Cushman and at right is Doug Hocking. Hensall Playground organizes rock a-thon The rock a-thon will take place on July 12. By Liz Sangster Hensall correspondent HENSALL - The next Hensall and Area Community Drop -In will be Thursday, July 18 at the Hensall United Church. Foot care will start at 10 a.m.. Contact Marg Cole at 262-2304 if you need an appoint- ment. Lunch will be at noon. Kate Monk from the Ausable Hayfield Conservation Authority will show slides on birds in the area. Card games will follow. Cost is $4 per person. Transporta- tion can be provided if requested. There will be no service at Car - Scavenger hunt The first ever Hire a Student Day Scavenger Hunt was held July 27. Thirteen students and 16 employers participated in the event that was planned to promote the hiring of students and give students practice dealing with employers. The winning team consisted of Sarah Workman, Amy Schwartzentruber, Lori Pergel and Leanne Pergel. The Hensall Playground staff re- port there has been an overwhelm- ing response to the program's re- quest for craft supplies. These donations will be put to good use. Further donations are welcome if you have juice can lids, scrap fab- ric, yarn, or other craft related "junk" you do not need. Donations can be dropped off at the arena, municipal office and McTaggart's Knechtel, all in Hensall. The first special events for the playground are happening this ‘veek. These will include a trip to the London Children's Museum, and a Rock-a-thon. The Rock-a- thon will take place at the arena on July 12. The event will feature rocking chairs, rock crafts, and rock-and-roll. Tickets are available for the Parks Board beef barbecue and dance, scheduled for August 17. The event is being hosted and sponsored by the Hensall Kinsmen, Parks Board and Firefighters. Tick- ets are available from organization members, Hensall arena and Hen- sall Municipal Office.
