United Church Women
meet at Camp Menesetung
GODERICH - The Huron -Perth
Presbyterial U.C.W. held their an-
nual Campsite Experience at the
United Church camp Menesetung
near Goderich.
Approximately 60 women regis-
tered for the event. Coffee and muf-
fins were served by the U.C.W. of
North St. United Church, Goderich.
President Betty Graber welcomed
everyone.
The theme "We are a part of the
family" was carried out in music
and worship. Guest speaker Barba-
ra Hicks, Goderich, chose as her
topic "Porcupines have soft tum-
mies". She challenged the group to
name the porcupines in the home,
and the church. "Everyone has por-
cupines in their lives", she stated.
These arc the problems that sur-
round us in our homes and church-
es. "We tend to be an unforgiving
people. Anger, self-righteousness,
resentment, are negative responses
to a hurting world". She read sever-
al scriptures on forgiveness.
Group discussion followed. Each
group was asked to find a passage
of scripture dealing with forgive-
ness, and to ask themselves "What
do we do about the porcupines in
our life'.' and What gifts are we
holding out on?"
The speaker was thanked by Lois
Elliot, Clinton. Hicks has been a
camp director at Menesetung for
ten years, and in her report she
stressed the need for adults to be-
come involved with camp activities
or support a child to attend summer
camp.
Dorothy Duncan, Stratford, re-
ported for the United Church Camp
at $imini. There is a need for
household supplies. The worship
service was conducted by Lois Elli-
ot and Debbie Hulley, based on the
"International Year of the Family".
Courtesy remarks were given by
Phyllis Cox, Goderich.
Conveners for the event was the
Leadership Development Commit-
tee: Orrie Hartwick, chair; Jean
Mathers, and Lois Elliot.
Now that's a prize!

Community Lifestyle Fair
CLINTON - information on
health, wealth and leisure for sen-
iors. the physically challenged and
their families will be available at
the first of what is hoped will be an
annual Community Lifestyle Fair.
Monika Penner, one of the orga-
nizers for thc fair to be held on
June 21 at the Clinton Arena, ex-
plained that this fair has been orga-
nized to replace the information
fairs for seniors that were previous-
ly held in local municipalities. The
decision was made to hold a
county -wide fair, where -in informa-
tion could be provided for seniors,
as well as for those who are physi-
cally challenged and their families.
Clinton was chosen as thc site for
the first fair, as it is centrally locat-
ed in Huron County.
The Community Lifestyle Fair
will also differ from the former in-
formation fair, as rather than just
focussing on health, information on
financial planning and leisure will
also be featured.
The idca behind the fair, Penner
stated, is to inform thc public of
just what kind of services are avail-
able in the county. "1 think it is
really. really important, particularly
in the rural areas, to know what is
available in the county," she said.
She added that people need to be
informed that they don't have to
travel to such cities as Toronto or
London for the services they are
seeking, as many services are avail-
able right in the county.
For the health portion of the fair.
there will he displays and informa-
tion available on such services and
businesses as Professional Respira-
tory, Shoreline Healthco., the Mul-
tiple Sclerosis Society, Htiron
County Home Care, and the Huron
County Health Unit.
Those seeking information on lei-
sure will be able to learn about
travel and golf, to name a few ac-
tivities, and a golf pro will be on
hand to give tips. A barbershop
quartette will also be performing
4
for thc entertainment of fair visi-
tors.
For those looking at their finan-
cial picture in the wealth portion of
the fair, there will be information
from financial planners, a few area
hanks, and accountants. A financial
seminar will be held periodically
throughout the day with Nesbitt
Thompson.
Those who take the time to visit
the fair, which will run from 2 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. on Junc 21, will be
honked; Penner stated. "Cher next
job is to get the information out to
the general public, so they will
know about the Community Life-
style Fair." To this end, brochures
and flyers have been distributed
throughout the county. and those
seeking more information can con-
tact Penner at 482-3046; Marguer-
ite Falconer at 524-8301; or Helen
Ruttan at 357-3222.
A transportation service will be
offered to those seniors and physi-
cally handicapped people who can-
not get out to the fair by them-
selves. The hotline number is 1-
800-387-4241 or 482-7405, and
Penner asked those who are in need
of the service to register as soon as
possible, so the volunteer drivers
can be organized.
Among those working to orga-
nize the fair were various individu-
als and community groups, such as
Fran Hook and K. Lehnen of the
Huron home Care Program; Helen
Ruttan of the Town and Country
Homemakers; Sandy Davidson of
Para -Med Health Services; Mar-
guerite Falconer with the Huron
County Health Unit; Margaret
Swan, representing seniors groups
in the county; Clayton Hefty of
Professional Respiratory; Carol
Leeming of the Huron ' County
Planning and Development Depart-
ment; Leona Towton of Diamonds,
Jean Montgomery, a private indi-
vidual from Lucknow; and Penner
of Shoreline Healthco.
