support Playhouse
GRAND BEND - "Curtain
Calls" is hot off the press, just in
time for the opening season of the
Huron Country Playhouse, June
14, 1994, in Grand Bend. it is a
new and different cookbook that
contains time -tested popular reci-
pes, along with interesting histori-
cal highlights of the Playhouse.
Produced by the Huron Country
Playhouse Guild, "Curtain CgIIs"
is 375 pages in length. It contains
more than 340 diversified recipes
donated as "treasured favourites"
by Guild memhers and friends of
the Playhouse.
"Curtain Calls" will soon be on
sale at the Playhouse Farm Shoppe
and in selected outlets in the sur-
rounding arca for 514.95 each.

to make
meat pies
EXETER - The evening unit of
Exeter United Church Women held
their final meeting of the season at
Pat Down's cottage. About 30
women sat down to a potluck sup-
per that had to be moved inside due
to inclement weather.
Susan MacGregor conducted the
worship service based on the theme
of laughter and how important it
was to Christ in His life as well as
in our lives today. Several hilarious
jokes were told and then Susan con-
cluded with 'There is Sunshine in a
Smile". A couple of funny contests
conducted by Gladys Richardson
and Margaret Truemner were en-
joyed by all.
Norma Cockwill, unit leader, car-
ried on with the business portion. It
was reported that $111.25 had been
raised from the sale of Flora
Doerr's hand painted greeting
cards. Meat pies will be made June
22 for the last time until fall. The
next general meeting will be Sep-
tember 26.
Pat was thanked for her hospitali-
ty and Norma closed the meeting
with the Mizpah Benediction.
Grocery winners
Winners of the Exeter United Church senior youth group received prizes in groceries from
Valu Mart. The draw's proceeds go towards education purposes for the youth group. From
left are youth group president Jeff Bowen, leader George Finch, first prize winner Kevin
Hem with daughter Kelsey, third prize winner Kay Rathwell, and Cathy Seip from Seip's
Valu Mart, the donor of the groceries. Second prize winner Tracy Ward is absent.
Organize swim program

VARNA - The Stanley Township Rec Committee met again to organize
their annual swimming program. This swimming program runs from July
18-29 and is $38 per child. Contact Sandy Robinson for more information
and to register your child.
The Rec Committee have planned a clean up day on July 9 at 9 a.m. for
anyone wishing to help paint, repair, and general clean up around the ball
diamonds.
Registration forms are available for Brucefield-Kippen-Varna-Goshen
Daily Vacation Bible School for the week of August 8 - 12. The cost is $5
per child and the minimum age is four by December 31/94.
Deb Rathwell and Mona Stephenson hosted the UCW meeting at the
home of Deb on Thursday evening.
Joan Whyte spoke on her trip to New Zealand and Australia and showed
many photos she had taken while there. Joan's daughter Crystal is going to
teachers college in Sydney, Australia along with seven others from Onta-
rio.
Rathwell had a video of the Stratford Boys Choir along with the Sarnia
Boys Choir. Local boys involved in the Stratford Boys Choir are Danny
Rathwell, Bart Lavis, Matthew Triebner, and Trevor Bender.
June 22 will be clean up day at Camp Menesetung from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
A bridal shower will be held for Trish McAsh June 20 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Varna Church.
The Church picnic will be held Sunday August 7. Anyone from Varna
wishing to help with the sports and or games should contact Joyce Dow -
son.
The meeting ended with a silent auction which raised approximately
$50. and lunch was served.
New volunteers at Queensway
HENSALL - Last Monday morn-
ing the Volunteer Auxiliary met to
discuss some upcoming events in
June. New volunteers at Queens-
way are Lorna Spencer and Kay
Mock. A student volunteer, Cassi-
die Davies, is also helping out.
Tuesday afternoon's church ser-
vice was performed by Rev. S.
Vandermeer of Exeter Christian
Reformed Church. The musical ac-
companiment was provided by
Phyllis Desjardines.
The baking club got together
Thursday afternoon to prepare their
entries for the Hensall Fair baking
competition. The club received a
first place for their hrstn muffins
and a third place for their banana
loaf.

social will be held June 28 at 6 p.m.
