Elvis entertains at
Queensway birthday party
HENSALL - Residents of
Queensway Nursing Home gath-
ered for a birthday party Thursday
evening and watched Elvis sing lots
of his classic songs. Those who
were celebrating birthdays this
month included Laurene Wein, Bill
Eveland, Aleida Kats, Luella Hale,
Helen Wells, Dorothy Page and Ha-
zel Mason. Everyone thoroughly
enjoyed the show.
Earlier in the week, another
group of residents got together for
Breakfast Club. They enjoyed a de-
licious brunch - pie, bacon and
cheese, and English muffins with
preserves. Later the same day, a
good friend, Pastor Larry Stojkovic
from Dashwood Lutheran Church
performed the weekly church ser-
vice.
On Wednesday, a group of wom-
en gathered to do some baking.
This was a practice run for baking
that was to be submitted to the
Hensall Fair.
Volunteers were out to help on
Saturday's Great Garage Sale. Al-
though the weather did not look
promising, they stuck through it to
help make the day a success. Many
people supported the fundraising
efforts by buying coffee and donuts
or stopping at the barbecue on
Main Street.
Upcoming
June 6 at 10 a.m. there will be a
Volunteer Auxiliary meeting. A
Birthday Party will be held June 23
at 7 p.m. and a strawberry social
for the Alzheimer Society is on
June 28 at 6 p.m.

Seniors
wait for spring
weather
AI LSA CRAIG - The Keenagers
at Craigwiel Day Centre for Sen-
iors are wondering just when
spring is actually going to get here.
The walks and trips usually taken
in May, have been either cancelled
or have been duller affairs than
usual.
There has been fun in recalling
springs of yesterday, with the gath-
ering of maple sap done with hors-
es and sleighs; of the spring break-
up of roads, and trying to negotiate
a car around or through those mud
holes, and perhaps even getting
mired in them.
It looked quite spring the day the
residents made colourful gum drop
trees for Easter! Then on Easter
Monday, Creative Director took_
them to her place for coffee, and to
see the new china cupboard/hutch
her husband had crafted for them.
Their travels also took the resi-
dents to see the swans out ir.
Lambton, to Heywoods for lunch
and to a delicious meal at Anna
*Maes in Millbank.
Tom Hayman visited the Centre
again to show some slides of birds
and secret places in London that
could bring pleasure to anyone!
Evelyn McNaughton showed a
easy chair tour of the Caribbean,
and the Co-ordinator gave a won-
derful trip to Holland complete
with dutch soup for lunch.
Two new games crafted by Nor-
man Smith have been getting a
real work out. Dutch shuffleboard
has gone over with a bang and
their version of "Wheel of For-
tune" got a good response as well.
Marilyn Cox again delighted the
group with a talk on gardening.
Mother's Day became a special
celebration . The Creative Director
contacted all the families and
asked them to send in reasons that
their family member should
be"Woman of the Year". The Fri-
day before Mother's Day, these
letters were read, with the recipi-
ent sitting in a place of honour.
There were all kinds of awards.
such as "Quest Award", "Joviality
Award." "Tenacity Award" and
even a "Tapfer Durchgehalten
Award". There was barely a dry
cye in the room by the end.
Perhaps you would like to join in
their activities. It has proven to be
a boon to other lonely or isolated
people. Those who find foot care
and a bath and an opportunity to
socialize with others like their day
at the Centre as well.
Make bedtime story time.
