Coach Ray Lewis said the game was very evenly matched and could have gone either way, as neither team was able to mount any sus- tained pressure throughout the af- ternoon. Both teams were able to get many scoring opportunities, and South Huron's Chad Gilfillan and Dave Farquhar were thwarted on breakaways. In net, rookie goal- keeper Steve Hern made a diving stop on a headball from Listowel striker Moses Drummond. It looked like an uphill struggle for the Panthers early on, when they were forced to open the game without right-winger and setup man Dave Farquhar, injured earlier in the week. Farquhar did join the game in the second half, only to see the team lose centre forward and leading scorer Luke Sims leave with an injury for most of the half. The Panthers' winning goal came with only 10 minutes remaining in regulation time after South Huron was awarded a corner kick. Trevor Boersma crossed the ball to the op- posite side of the crease, where Jeff MacLean made no mistake, volley- ing the ball high under the crossbar. For the junior Panthers, this capped another perfect season, as they went undefeated for the sec- ond straight year, finishing 9-0. Over the past three years the jun- iors' record stands at an amazing 26- I -0. No junior team has ever held the Huron -Perth title for four consecu- tive seasons, and no junior team had ever won the title at South Hu- ron until the Panthers began their string in 1991. The Panthers advanced to the fi- nal after capturing the Huron cham- pionship last ,Tuesday at home, de- feating F.E. Madill 4-0. Scorers were Chad Gilfillan, Scott Rasen- berg, Bryon Ellerington, and Luke Sims. Coach Ray Lewis said it is unfor- tunate there is no level of competi- tion beyond the Huron -Perth title for the juniors. "You know they're good enough to keep going. If there was a WOS- SA, we'd be in it," said Lewis. Senior girls close season with loss in Huron final GODERICH - The senior girls Panthers soccer team were looking to tie up the Huron final against the Goderich Vikings last Tuesday, but ended up well short with a 3-1 score. Coach Jim Workman said with only minutes left in the final half, and a 2-1 score on the boards, he pulled the whole team forward in a do-or-die effort to tie the game. "Of course, they got a breakaway and they scored," he said, shaking his head with a smile. "I think it was a good season they had,"' he said, and expressed hope for the 1995 team. With several talented junior players coming up through the sys- tem, he said the tradition of good senior girls soccer should continue. t Starts Friday "The more minor soccer they've Mthe more skillful they Fitweek events be- come, e," said Workman. aimed at staying healthy and active The Wrath of Grapes., by Don Cheer THE SINGAPORE CANE When you break the law in Singapore, you get the cane and for everything like rape to vandalism The cane is laid on with a split rod that leaves it's victims bleed- ing and sometimes scarred. President Ong Tang Cheong says "You want to do the crime, you better be ready to do the time and I guess take the cane too." Isn't so different over here, with our bleeding heart left wing wimps who's only goal in life is to protect the punks and make it as hard as they can on the victims? The people of Canada have spoken through polls. Capital punish- ment was favoured by over 73% of the people and when asked if "If capitol punishment should be brought hack the answer carne back, a resound- ing "Yes!". But our left wing wimps won't have a referendum on Capital punishment. They're afraid the people will vote in favour of it. (which they would). The Canadian justice system has turned our country into a haven for thc murderers, rapists, thugs and such, and the rights of these punks are looked af- ter, and what about the victims? "We are trying to get as many people involved as possible," says Lynne Farquhar, recreation director. Last year over 180 people participat- ed in the "fitwalk". The corporate challenge also had a good turn out last year, although many didn't register until the day of the event. "The corporate challenge is a lot of fun for the business peo- ple. It gives them an opportunity to get out and see one another on a casual basis," says Farquhar. "Many businesses say they have shown the video tapes of the event at their staff parties." Fitweek in Hensall will be cele- brated with the annual "Participac- tion Challenge". This year Hensall has been chal- lenged by the town of Bow Island Alberta, the white bean capital of the west, to see who has the fittest mascot. W.B.
