Martha Weigand, of Dashwood, presents Verona Snider, of
Exeter, with a plant at the 91st Huron South Women's insti-
tute meeting held in Grand Bend. Snider spoke to the group,
comprised of eight branches, about the importance of the
family.
Attentive audience
for May birthdays
ZURICH - The Tuesday evening May Birthday Party was hosted by
Grand Bend UCW with Loreen Gill as chairperson. Tom Hindle led the
singing program and filled the evening air with the sound of his mouth or-
gan. Irene Kennedy played the piano as the residents joined in the many
songs. Gladys Kerslake read a poem "The Wayside Chapel". Residents
celebrating May birthdays were Orville Witmer, Jean Burr, Lorne Devine.
Harold (Tiny) Thiel, Pearl Hooper, Hagar Uttley, Loftus Denomme and
Margaret Jones. Witmer is the birthday songster, but since it was his birth-
day month he sang solos "Rock of Ages' and "Abide with Me." for his at-
tentive audience. Auxiliary members Mary Lou and Marie Denomme
helped the UCW members serve birthday cakes and refreshments to tic
residents and family members.
IThe residents have enjoyed videos selected by the Adjuvant such as
"Black Beauty", "Lassie - the Painted Hills" and "The Great Mile."
Wednesday afternoon tea was served by Cathy Shantz, Adjuvant with
bouquets of fresh flowers.
Pastor Annette Smith, interim minister at St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
Zurich conducted Thursday afternoon Chapel Service. Fr. Matthias Wron-
ski, St. Boniface Church Zurich celebrated mass.
Chapel services on May 5 were conducted•hy Rev. Henry Annen, Hen-
sall United Church and the May 12 service was led by Rev. Mark Gaskin,
Carmel -Cavan Presbyterian Church, Hensall.
Saturday May 21 the residents and members of the La Porte family
joined in the Chapel to listen to Phil and Patty La Porte renew their wed-
ding vows of 25 years ago.
Many thanks to the many members of the community who have dropped
off material ends and yarn for use in the hobby room.
The residents look forward to their annual summer family dinner on
Sunday June 26. The BWRH annual meeting will be held on Tuesday June
14 at 8 p.m. Also in June, Ruby Hoggarth and her family will have an
open house on June 12 to celebrate Ruby's 90th birthday.

Long term care discussed
EXETER - Alma Langford pre-
sided for the afternoon unit of
U.C.W. and read a poem My Moth-
cr.
Vera Mills was in charge of the
program and introduced Janice
Hayter -Oke who spoke on long
term care, adult programs, pallia-
tive care, spiritual and emotional
support. This was very interesting
and educational.
Roll call was 'a memory of my
mother'.
Minutes were read and treasur-
er's report was given.
Two boxes of craft articles were
sent to Menesetung. ARC Indus-
tries are in need of dried flowers.
ribbons, lace and magazines for
crafts.
Devotional was on Samaritan
women. Mary Bacchler and Helen
Roberts presented a skit and Hilda
Taylor led in prayer. Ruth Ellwood
gave a reading "Horne town quilt-
ing bee". Marjorie Johns gave a
medley of tunes on the organ.
A dainty lunch was served.
