The rainy -day victory came on the heels of a 4-0 victory against Seaforth the day before. "Since our tournament last weekend, we've scored a lot of goals," said coach Jim Workman. He hoped that aggressive. goal -scoring momentum would be following the team into its last game against Goderich Tuesday afternoon. Goderich finished the season one point ahead of South Huron, meaning the Panthers need both points of a win to decide the Huron champions. The game. being played as of press time, will send its winners on to challenge Perth's best, and then on to WOSSA The last time the Panther's faced Goderich, they tied 11 Workman said he has high hopes for the team Even the Madill coach, watching the final minutes of last Wednesday's game, admitted the . Old hockey victory banners may have to go, warns arena EXETER - Past hockey victories may be just memories unless the mementoes can be kept in better shape, the South Huron Recreation ('entre Board is warning. The board expressed concern at Thursday's meeting that sotne of the hanners hanging in the arena "have been around for quite a long time and looking pretty tough', in the words of Exeter councillor Dave t_Irlin. "Some banners go hack a long, long time and the board feels that if they arc to be kepi up there, they should be clean and in good condi- Shuffleboard Hensall May 10 6 game winners Lorna Spencer Alice Thiel Russell Ferguson. A policy is also being sought as to how long the banners are to be displayed in the arena. The Recreation Centre. however, is also taking down a sign of its own. The lighted sign at the corner of Main and Victoria Streets is to be replaced with a more modest sign pointing the way to the arena. Veteran anglers along with some newcomers to the sport set out as early as 6 a.m. to try their hand at catching the big one, or at least nabbing one of the tagged fish that could net them a $20,000 boat. "We have about 900 entries in the derby," said Bob MacEachern, der- by chairman. "And the weather on the opening weekend was great." On opening day 70 fish were caught with the biggest being just over 12 pounds which is far less than the 27 pound winner last year. By Sunday another 72 fish were caught. And when the weigh sta- tions closed Sunday evening, Chris Keyser, of Hensall, held the record for biggest catch with his 17.3 pound salmon. Compared to last years big catch, Keyser's might seem small. but MacEachern said the largest catch by the end of a similar derby in Sarnia this year only netted at 20 pounder. "But he'll (Keyser) probably be knocked down the hoard a bit...there's still a week to go in the derby." MacEachern said. And for those who have tickets to participate in the derby, their long hours of patient waiting for the big one could mean a $4,000 purse for the higgest salmon and $1,000 for the higgest trout. This is in addition to a number of other prizes and mystery draws. A single run in the ninth added up to four runs for the Express. just short of the Red Socks' score of Live runs by the bottom of the seventh. Dave Atthill and Paul Smith were also part of the Express' four -hit game. Tillsonburg neatly matched them with eight hits. however. Off the Red Socks pitching. Exeter managed three walks, but had five strike -outs against them. The weather was great for the sixth annual salmon and trout derby on the weekend. Chris Keyser, of Hensall, managed to catch a 17.3 pound salmon. That was the largest catch by the end of the weekend, but there are still 10 days left for some- one to beat hinne out.
