The volunteers held their monthly or- ganizational meeting and made plans for all of May's activities. The ladies from the Hensall United Church are holding the May bin- gos. They were at Queensway Monday afternoon and the residents enjoyed playing bingo and winning a prize. Tuesday afternoon, Shirley Lu- ther from the Salvation Army per- formed the weekly church service. A number of residents went to see the final dress rehearsal of Hen- sall Public School's spring concert - Joseph and the Amazing Techni- Youth for Christ rally ZURICH - Rob Steckle presided at the Youth for Christ Rally held May 7 with many young people in attendance. Maria Stepan led the group in some choruses after which a Bible quiz was conducted with four teams. This was the last quiz of the season and trophies were given out. Goderich Jumpers got the large tro- phy and a small trophy was given to the highest quizzer on each team. Trophies were awarded to: Maria Stepan (Goderich Jumpers), Jill Ramer (Zurich), Tatiana Stepan (Goderich Guessers) and tied were Becky and Nancy (Centralia). Karen Klugston shared her three- month mission experience in Japan with the Life Ministries program. She taught 33 students from ages five to 75. She taught them English for one hour and then a minister would have 20 minutes of chapel time in their own language. She would tell them children's stories and the minister would translate. At the end of her time there, 11 out of 12 children in her children's class said they wanted to accept Jesus as Savior. This was the highlight for Klugston. Bob Black, director of London Youth for Christ told of some inter- esting experiences that he had in Bible College as he shared a bed- room with three of his buddies. He encouraged the youth to be actively involved in service. He told about his life as a young per- son. Disillusioned when his parents split, everything he was taught sud- denly had a lot of cracks in it. His dad was his hero. But, God had a hand on his life. Someone from Y.F.C. came along and said what- ever you're going through I'll walk with you. He got involved in caring for and helping others. He has been serving for the Y.F.C. for 24 years. He said God will show you what you can do to make a difference. The group's last event this year will be a chicken barbecue at Ken Gashcho's Park on June 18 with Bernie Smith as speaker. Dashwood WI enjoys slides DASHWOOD - Tuesday May 3, 25 Women's Institute members and guests enjoyed a pot luck din- ner at the Dashw9od Community Centre. After a short program including readings by Dorothy Restemayer, Mary Weber introduced the guest speaker Ada Dinney who showed slides on a recent trip to Israel which was very interesting and in- formative. The meeting opened with the Ode followed by The Mary Stew - an Collect. The roll call was "what article do you read first in the newspaper? The motto was "Love is the Master Key that opens the Gates of Happiness. Plans were made to attend the District Annual at Grand Bend An- glican Church at 6 p.m. on May 19. An invitation to Zurich W.I. 80th anniversary on June 6 at the United Church was accepted. Members are looking forward to the bus trip on June 7 also the Dis- trict Picnic held at Crediton Com- munity Park on July 5. The fall rally takes place in Zu- rich on October 3. Plant winners were Maud Hoffman, Martha Wei- gand, Greta Miller, Amy Rader and Audrey McGregor. Dashwood W.I. meetings aro held the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The limp meeting will be held on Monday lune 6 at 7:30 p.m. due to the bus trip the follow- ing day. Activities were buzzing on Thursday as residents prepared for the afternoon gathering for Volun- teer Appreciation. Residents pre- pared the refreshments and prac- ticed their readings for the program to honour and thank their volun- teers. Winners of the door prizes in- cluded Betty Simmons, Glad Green, Marg Cole, Gregory Mason, Helen Toornstra. Upcoming May 16 at 2 p.m. Hensall United Church sponsors bingo; May 20 at 2 p.m. will be a hymn sing; May 26 at 7 p.m., there will be a birthday party with Rick Elliott and May 28 will be Hensall's Great Garage Sale. Students at Hensall Public School spent Friday afternoon jumping rope for the Huron Heart and Stroke Foundation. From left, Nick Bayley, Joe Barty and David Bisback get into the swing of things. As of Friday afternoon students had raised $1,000 and an additional $1,000 is expect- ed this week.
