HENSALL - The next gathering
of the Hensall Older Adult Drop -1n
is May 19 at 12 noon, at the Hen-
sall United Church. Foot care be-
gins at 10 a.m. A well-balanced,
nutritional lunch will be served by
volunteers.
Biddy Cammack will follow with
flexibility exercises to energize
body and brain. Sandra Filtz from
Public Health will speak on "Signs
of Heart Attack and Stroke -Coping
Mechanisms." The afternoon will
be completed with card games.

Friendship Circle
The Friendship Circle of the Hen-
sall United Church met on May 2 at
8 p.m. Shirley McAllister wel-
cbmed everyone to the meeting
with a poem "Mother's Hands".
The roll call was answered by
each member telling where their
mother was born.
Plans were made for the bingo at
the Queensway Nursing Home for
the month of May. Anne Annen
gave a report on the U.C.W. Con-
ference in Stratford which had the
theme "Living our Vision".
The devotion "Time for Good
News" was given by Hazel Corbett.
Shirley McAllister showed slides of
Ethiopia showing how conditions
had improved in the last four years.
Everyone enjoyed lunch served
by Belva Fuss and Dorothy Brit-
nell.
Church anniversary
Ross Daily of C.F.P.L., will be
the guest speaker at Carmel Presby-
terian Church's Anniversary on
May 15 at 11 a.m.
Historical Society
The Huron Co. Historical Society
will hold their annual meeting at
Carmel Presbyterian Church on
May 19. Ian McAllister, a member
of the Hay Book Committee, will
speak on "Hay History Highlights".
a prelude to the 1995 book publica-
tion.

Six students win awards at ninth annual banquet
SHDHS honoured for
excellence in education
HOLMESVILLE - Six
south Huron District High
School students, a teacher, an
administrative assistant. and
a service club were among
those who received special
recognition at the April 27
Excellence in Education ban-
quet in Holmesville.
The ninth annual banquet was sponsored by the
Huron branch of the Ontario Secondary School
Teachers' Federation. and honoured a total of 40 stu-
dents, teachers, support staff, community members
and trustees who were nominated as contributors to
excellence in Huron County secondary schools.
For the first time ever. awards were presented to
county winners of the Marion Drysdale award for
writing and art. Krista Bierling a grade 12 South Hu-
ron District High School student was among the win-
ners for her writing on "My School: A good place to
discuss sexual discrimination".
Winners of the awards of excellence at South Hu-
ron included students Laurie Coolman, Molly
McClure, Dave Morlock, Chris Passmore, and Heath-
er Steckle. South Huron science teacher George
McEwan also won an award, as did administrative
assistant Kay Rathwell.
The Grand Bend Rotary Club was also honoured
with an excellence award for its major financial con-
tributions to the school, which include the purchase
of an elevator and a computerized career guidance
program.

few words of welcome, Jan report-
ed the noon luncheon was a worth-
while project, serving a capacity
crowd. Mention was made that the
men of the church had been willing
helpers.
Dorothy Taylor was in charge of
the worship service and was also
the pianist for the evening.
Cathy Bell, Margaret Varley and
Rachel Schwalm had been guests
of the Seaforth P.C.W. and told of
an enjoyable evening. Plans were
made to serve tea to the Huron Co.
Historical Society on May 19 and
for lunch after the Anniversary Ser -
'ice. Purchasing of flags for the
church was discussed. The minutes
were passed as read, by secretary
:Margaret Varley. Winnie Skea
gave the kitchen report, Cathy Bell
reported on the sick and shut-ins,
and Marilyn Campbell gave the fi-
nancial report.
The meeting closed with prayer,
followed by tea and cookies served
by Marlene Bell a d Janeth Sang-
ster.
Afternoon L dies Group
The Afternoon Ladies Group of
the Hensall United Church met

Elva Forrest opened the meeting
with a poem "Golden years of Life"
which was followed by prayer.
Anne Annen gave a report on the
U.C.W. conference in Stratford.
The ladies of the Huron -Perth Con-
ference made cotton shopping bags
for all those who attended the meet-
ing. Mary Alexander had the devo-
tional and spoke about the meaning
of the Lord's Prayer. Hilda Payne
was the pianist for the meeting.
The offering was dedicated by
Forrest. Evelyn Flynn had the study
and told about the new Tansley
United Church at Burlington and of
the new chaplaincy service in hos-
pitals which is financed by the Mis-
sion Service Fund.
Audrey Christie and Rena Cald-
well gave a few humourous
thoughts. The minutes of the April
meeting were read and roll call an-
swered. After the Benediction, Sa-
die Hoy and Audrey Christie
saved lunch.
Hassan Oiled Church
This past Sunday, at Hensall
United Church, Jarret David John,
son of Kathy and David Delbridgc
and Samantha Sea Margaret,
daughter of David and Fran East-
wood, received the rites of baptism
from Rev. Henry Annen.
Flowers, in memory of Pearl
Shaddick, were placed in the
church by George and Judy Parker.
The greeter for the day was Pat
Veal and the ushers were Tom and
Leslie Bailey and children.
The official board of the Hensall
United Church will be meeting on
May 18. All members are urged to
attend.
The United Church Ladies will
be serving lunch at noon and re-
freshments all day. during the Com-
munity Yard Sale, for the conven-
ience of yard sale shoppers.
Donations to the United Church
Bake and Sale tables will be grate-
fully accepted.
Personals
Mike, Charlene, Mitchell and Ja-
cob Foxton have moved into their
new home on Mill St. West.
On Mother's Day, a white Cadil-
lac limo was sent by granddaughter
Angela Noakes, to the Oxford St.
home of Minnie and Leonard
Noakes to drive them in company
with Linda Henry to the Delta Ar-
mouries Hotel for dinner and later a
tour of the city.
Area residents are reminded to
watch for the Hensall Yard Sale
Placemat-map. This outlines most
of the sales. food booths and spe-
cial events. The annual yard sale
will be Saturday. May 28, rain,
shine, sleet or snow!
